Software Engineer, .NET Desktop Tools

We are seeking a .NET developer and motivated Software Engineer to join the Kibeam engineering team to help build content creation and QA automation tools for our innovative Kibeam wand. You will be responsible for building tools that optimize our development process for creating interactive content that will help kids learn important reading skills and develop a love for paper books.


This role might be for you if you bring:

●      A passion for creating innovative and engaging educational experiences for children.

●      A strong technical background and expertise in backend development and software architecture.

●    Strong experience in .NET desktop development, have built tools using at least one of these XAML, Xamarin, Maui, Avalonia

●      Excel working cross functionally and are flexible and interested in learning new technologies to get the job done

●      A proactive attitude and a desire to create tools that save time and help create awesome things?.


Responsibilities:
  • Desktop tool development in a variety of areas including:
  • ----- A wand development tool that makes it easier for our developers to interact with the wand, get logs, navigate our content
  • ----- Tools that allow us to do automated testing on the wand
  • ----- Wand batch management tools allowing us to keep multiple wands up to date in a classroom setting
  • Develop tools using .NET and Avalonia that are geared to optimize our QA and content authoring process.
  • Work with Content and QA teams to transform specs into stable.
  • Work closely with backend and firmware engineering teams to ensure seamless. integration and communication between the platform components.
  • Work with our team of engineers to implement clean coding standards in your code.


Requirements:
  • 5+ years of professional desktop app development
  • 2+ years of .NET development in a professional environment
  • Professional experience with at least one of the following: XAML, Xamarin, Maui, Avalonia
  • Varied experience/ exposure across multiple languages, environments, and domains
  • Prior Tools development experience is strongly preferred.
  • Created multiple cross platform  Desktop apps with a support life cycle of more than 1 year.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture and design in software development.
  • Strong algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented design fundamentals.
  • Proven experience in  detail oriented project organization.
  • Understanding of modern source control systems (Git, SVN).
  • Good problem-solving skills, flexibility, and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills - particularly the ability to discuss timelines, spec concerns, and prioritization of features.
  • A proactive attitude and a desire to create innovative and engaging educational experiences for children and impact the growth of the company and the success of the Kibeam platform.
  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or relevant experience.


Nice to have:
  • Experience with full stack development in .NET
  • Cross platform desktop app development (mac, windows, linux)
  • Deep understanding of the Avalonia UI Framework
  • Python experience
  • Experience creating content development tools and/or QA automation tools.[
  • Experience with children’s products and/or interactive entertainment.
  • Experience writing native libraries for .NET apps.
  • Low level OS experience (ie, serial ports, bluetooth, etc)
  • Experience in a fast-paced, startup environment.

Location: Kibeam is a virtual, distributed team with close, continuous connection and support.  While we prefer candidates in the same time zone (west coast), we are much more interested in your skills and talents than where you work. You need to be able to work at home and join our full team (1-2 times per year) for in-person planning, activities, work and fun.
