So, what’s the role?
The Growth Finance team is uniquely positioned within Kin to serve as a strategic decision making partner to various teams (Operations, Marketing, Insurance, etc.) throughout the company on growth and profitability while also owning the build out of Kin’s annual operating plan and ongoing reporting and analysis around performance.
The Financial Analyst is a highly visible position on the Growth Finance team, delivering impactful analysis in a dynamic, rewarding, start-up environment.
You will have the opportunity to support the building and maintenance of key financial modeling, reporting, and presentation of Kin’s insurance product. You will partner cross-functionally with product, insurance, and claims teams to better predict retention, loss ratio, and rate impacts across different products and geographies. Additionally, you’ll support the Growth Finance team’s work on other high-impact projects like Key Performance Indicator development and reporting and building annual/quarterly operating plans. This role offers a unique opportunity to own and improve key processes within the Growth Finance team, while partnering closely with key leadership and executive stakeholders and developing a deep understanding of Kin’s business & product environment.
The ideal candidate is data-focused, intellectually curious, growth-minded, and has exceptional relationship-building, communication, and process improvement skills. They have a strong background in financial analysis and modeling, with either experience in the insurance industry not required but recommended.
A day in the life could include:
Enhancing and optimizing Kin’s retention modeling for current and future products and geographies
Analyzing subsets or cohorts of data to determine trends that help improve retention forecast accuracy
Build dashboards and other reports using Looker (BI tool) that help provide real-time results and feedback to executive leadership regarding customer retention
Partnering with the Insurance team to learn and forecast new products or rate changes
Supporting the build of loss ratio forecasting in partnership with the insurance team
I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?
1-2 years of work experience in Finance or related function/role within consulting, banking, or a growing technology-enabled business
Four year degree, with concentration in Finance, Economics, or similarly analytical area
Experience within the P&C insurance industry is preferred, but not required
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial modeling & data analysis
Experience writing SQL to aggregate, transform, and cleanse large datasets
Experience using Looker (or similar business intelligence and data visualization tool) to monitor & analyze business performance
Highly motivated and curious self-starter, independent thinker, and team player
Creative problem-solver with strong quantitative skills that can spot patterns, trends, and opportunities in data and proactively seek process improvement opportunities
Concise & confident communicator comfortable presenting & partnering with senior leadership on a consistent basis
