Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.


Position Summary


Reporting to the Human Resources Operations Manager, the Human Resources Operations Specialist is responsible for the administration of US staff. The incumbent will provide solid analytical, technical, administrative and customer service support association-wide to ensure accurate processing, timely crisis resolution, report creation, sustainable practices and regulatory compliance.


The Human Resources Operations Specialist will collaborate with all areas of Human Resources and other business stakeholders to improve transactional processes for optimal employee experience.


The successful candidate is a highly motivated team player, critical thinker, with excellent writing and communications skills, willing learner, multi-tasker able to time manage effectively with our team.


This a headquarters position based remotely from any location in the U.S.


Essential Functions
  • Maintains HR inbox daily, by responding to employment related inquiries and forwarding requests, as necessary.
  • Leads HR events such as listening sessions, meetings, committee calls and presentations related to positions scope.
  • Maintains employee records, ensuring completion and accuracy of details such as employee contact information, job classification, pay rates, organizational structure, and other key details.
  • Secures and deploys HR Operations initiatives and supports other programs in the areas of DEI, Wellness, Talent Management and benefits
  • Maintains day to day Employer of Record relationship and invoicing.
  • Researches effectiveness of HR programs and propose improvements to policies, programs and procedures to ensure higher effectiveness and operations.
  • Responsible for employment verifications requests.
  • Provides assistance to HR team, as needed.
  • Leads US Intern program.
  • Creates employee files, administers any necessary onboarding documents and ensures all paperwork is completed and submitted.
  • Coordinates and conducts new hire orientations.
  • Manages Onboarding and Offboarding for US Hires and Interns.
  • Performs administrative and recordkeeping tasks related to staffing changes, which may include layoffs, resignations, terminations, and extended leaves of absence.
  • Assists with the administration of employee benefits, which may include collecting and submitting employee information and notice of change in status to health, dental, life, disability, and other insurance carriers or insurance brokers.
  • Plans and supports company-wide information meetings such as open enrollment, new hire orientation, and meetings to announce or discuss changes in retirement or benefits plans.
  • Conducts or assists with record audits and mandatory reports, which may include I-9 audits, EEO-1 filings, payroll audits, and other compliance reviews.
  • Supports the Human Resources Operations Manager with reporting and HRIS administration.
  • Assists with payroll processing and reconciliation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • SHRM or benefits certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in benefits administration preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; strong cross cultural and interpersonal skills; ability to build rapport with staff at all levels.
  • Proven experience working with diverse or historically underserved communities.
  • Excellent discretion and ability to handle sensitive information with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong technological skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and HR information systems, and ADP Workforce Now.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (such as Teams, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate as appropriate.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and communication styles.

$52,285 - $67,857 a year
