Kitchen Helper/Porter - Third Street Women's Residence

Job Overview:

  • Work Schedule: Fulltime, regular, 35 hours per week; assigned shift
  • Shift Assignment: Monday to Friday from 6:30-2:30
  • Location: Fully onsite in the Lower East Side

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • At least two (2) years previous experience working in a Social Service Agency
  • Required to posses NYDOH Food Handlers Certificate at the time of hiring
  • Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certificate within the first 3 months of employment
  • Must have Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) clearance
  • May be able to work holidays, evenings and/or weekends as needed

Kitchen Responsibilities:

  • Heat and serve prepared dinner to resident’s daily meals times served (7am-9am, 12pm-2pm and 5pm-7pm).
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen and dining room after food service is completed, including disposal of leftovers. Along with cleaning and shutdown of equipment according to regulatory compliance standards.
  • Maintain established standards of sanitation, safety, food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments
  • Ensure the proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment; identify equipment needs for food preparation and service and assist in purchasing as needed
  • Keep record of meals served, distributed, and discarded according to program and regulatory agencies mandates.
  • Ensure food delivered is cooked according to all relevant protocols and inform Shift Supervisor of any problems
  • Wash all dish cloths at least once weekly.
  • Keep an inventory of paper goods and other supplies
  • Participate in the agency's self-evaluation process and auditors monitoring visits and comply.
  • Attend and participate in all assigned trainings, pre-service and in-service trainings, and other professional development.

Porter Responsibilities:

  • Assist with clean and prep
  • After meals are served and kitchen/dining area are cleaned, service dormitory bathrooms to remove trash and replenish toilet paper, paper towels, and soap
  • Sweep and Mop all areas on the 1st floor and staff lounge.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Essential Physical Job Functions:

  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs of inventory
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods of time as needed
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Able to work onsite in the Lower East Side

Experience
