Kraken is looking for an Engineering Manager to help lead and build out our Custody Team. Join our Custody team and have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing transformation of the digital assets industry at Kraken. Our team plays a crucial role in identifying problems in the industry and delivering novel solutions. As a leader of the Custody team, you will have the chance to lead and collaborate with highly skilled Rust Engineers, cryptographers, hardware aficionados, and on-chain experts from around the world. We are enthusiastic about the highest security custody environments and efficiency of signing with the major cryptographic curves. Our collaborative work environment allows us to stay ahead in the ever-changing crypto landscape.
We are looking for a strong communicator and team-player, who is able to identify business problems, own Kraken’s Institutional strategy, and set the agenda to maximize business impact from the team. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader that’s passionate about crypto, software engineering. You understand the tech and what’s going on at ground level and facilitate your team into making great decisions, but you’re careful not to let your own opinions outweigh those of others, and strike a healthy balance between trusting the way your team does things currently and challenging them to strive for something better. You find ways to make your team better and deliver: expedite a process, get rid of a blocker, get repetitive work off team members by handling it and/or automating it, and more.
Facilitating and contributing to deliverables in a team that is dedicated to integrations for institutional custody
Help scale the team by hiring and growing passionate engineers committed to excellence
Lead by example and nurture talent in an integration focused team, focusing on the growth of developers and ensuring their workload leaves them both challenged and fulfilled
Help identify, analyze, and resolve bottlenecks and inefficiencies in processes and codebases
Design and implement low-latency, high-availability, super secure applications and data protection systems
Spend about 80% of your time managing risks across different domains who have distinct domain experts
Manage stakeholder expectations in Security, Compliance, Product, Finance, Design, and Client Experience, to ensure seamless integration of new features and improvements
Maintain a security-first mindset by staying informed of the latest trends in blockchain technologies, and Web3 in general
Own, develop and maintain existing integrations
Experience as a backend developer and leading teams of 7+ engineers writing code exclusively in Rust
Proficiency in Rust
Leans heavy into process, optimization and always has security at the forefront of decision making
Strong proficiency with basic cryptographic concepts
Familiarity with modern build pipelines and tooling
Deep knowledge of software development and delivery best practices; you can identify bottlenecks and/or obstacles holding back your team and find ways to help them move faster
Experience driving solutions to key business problems, especially navigating and resolving ambiguity
Understanding the nature of asynchronous programming and its quirks and workarounds
Understanding accessibility and security compliance
Understanding user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments
Strong passion for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
Strong written skills in English is required
