Join our growing regulatory legal team (18 professionals) working on matters such as advisory, licensing, regulatory inquiries and product set up - all to further Kraken’s mission.
The Opportunity:
Join a global digital asset exchange with deep roots in Australia. Kraken operates an AUSTRAC registered Digital Currency Exchange, and has serious growth ambitions in this market.
You’ll be the first regulatory lawyer dedicated to the region, as part of a wider team of 18 (and growing) global regulatory lawyers across the USA, UK and Europe.
Plan and implement company-wide regulatory strategy for the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape in the crypto industry.
Work at the cutting edge of the Australian financial services regime, and Australia’s future regulatory regime for crypto assets, as well as advising on broader APAC expansion and regulatory matters.
Guide new product creation and regulatory acquisition strategy working with the product and strategy teams.
Work with prominent financial services regulators and policy makers on challenging regulatory issues.
Skills you should HODL:
Qualified Lawyer in Australia, Singapore, New Zealand or Hong Kong.
8+ years of relevant experience applying financial regulations, whether at a major law firm or in house.
Deep understanding of Australian financial services law and regulation (in particular derivatives brokerage and managed investment scheme regulation) and a good working knowledge of the legal and regulatory regimes of other key markets in the APAC region such as Singapore and Hong Kong.
Familiarity with the pending regulatory changes facing Digital Asset businesses in Australia, such as proposed CASSPr licensing and custody requirements and The Treasury’s proposal paper for regulating Digital Asset Platforms.
Mindset that is team-oriented as well as proactive and entrepreneurial: an opportunity-making person who uses the law to increase the company’s optionality, not decrease it.
Interest in the crypto industry / what our company is offering to the world and why.
Nice to haves:
Experience working in-house at a FinTech or crypto company in the Asia Pacific region.
Familiarity with the regulatory landscape governing cryptocurrency in Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, or Hong Kong.
Experience gained both in-house and at a law firm.
Experience at a regulator.
