Payroll Manager / Sr. Payroll Manager

The Payroll and Equity Manager will be responsible for overseeing all payroll functions and ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee compensation, including equity awards. This role involves managing payroll operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and administering equity compensation plans. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in payroll management, a strong understanding of equity administration, and a background in the life sciences or similar regulated industry.


Responsibilities
  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, including processing payroll, managing deductions, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain and update payroll records, including employee status changes, tax withholdings, and benefit deductions.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and address employee inquiries related to compensation and payroll issues.
  • Prepare and review payroll reports, including payroll summaries, tax filings, and year-end reports.
  • Administer equity compensation plans, including stock options, restricted stock units (RSUs), and other equity awards.
  • Ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and compliance of equity grants and vesting schedules.
  • Collaborate with HR and legal teams to manage the equity compensation program, including grant documentation, exercise processes, and employee communications.
  • Provide support and guidance on equity-related matters, including tax implications and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll-related regulations and reporting requirements, including tax filings and labor laws.
  • Prepare and file necessary reports with government agencies and ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • Stay current with changes in payroll and equity regulations and implement necessary updates to policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in payroll and equity administration to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement best practices and recommend changes to payroll systems and procedures.
  • Collaborate with IT and HR teams to integrate payroll and equity management systems.
  • Supervise and mentor payroll staff, providing training and support as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment within the payroll team.


Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll management, with experience in equity administration. Experience in the life sciences or similar regulated industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing, equity compensation plans, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in payroll and HRIS systems (ADP, Equity Edge Online).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.


$147,000 - $153,000 a year

The salary range for candidates residing in California for this position is $147,000 to $178,000 annually. This salary range is an estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay for this posted position, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation geographic location, individual education, experience, tenure, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.  This position is also eligible for bonus, benefits, and participation in Company’s stock option plan.
