Lab Technician

Title: Lab Technician

You will...

• Support the execution of business critical packaging testing out of the Packaging Laboratory based in our Newark, NJ distribution center
• Responsible for Packaging Lab maintenance, packaging component testing supplies, lab organization and cleanliness, and preventative maintenance of equipment
• Support Engineers through retrieval and preparation of components for packaging testing
• Support and conduct physical drop testing of boxes
• Support and conduct physical fit testing of new items
• Manage incoming and outgoing packaging samples
• Manage execution of external ship testing
• Support distribution center line trials of new packaging methods and components on various automated and manual packaging lines
• Work with the Packaging Engineering team to test and qualify packaging designs to expand the Packaging supply chain to enable top-line box growth
• Execute testing in the Packaging Laboratory based on instruction from the packaging engineering team
  • Tests include:
    • Thermal cold chain testing
    • Fit testing of new items
    • Drop testing
    • External ship testing
    • Line trials of new packaging methods and components
    • Retrieve and prepare testing components prior to tests
      • Be responsible for the organization and cleanliness of the lab
      • Clean testing chambers after each use
      • Keep lab stocked with supplies
      • Manage incoming and outgoing samples
    • Observe packaging conditions throughout the facility as directed by the engineering team

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly in a manufacturing and assembly environment and is occasionally exposed to cool and/or cold temperatures (10º - 40º).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, reach and lift for a minimum of 10 to 12 hours with or without reasonable accommodation. The employee is required to use hands to handle objects and/or tools. The employee is required to talk or hear with or without reasonable accommodation. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision.

At a minimum, you have...

• Previous experience working a production/distribution environment
• The ability to lift 35 pounds occasionally and operate in a refrigerated environment
• General knowledge of or interest in learning more about packaging testing and components
• Familiarity with google suite preferred
