Laboratory Assistant, Clinical Neurosciences

Position Overview

The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Laboratory Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Laboratory Assistant reports directly to the Research Manager and primarily focuses on the cleaning services of the lab. Once trained, successful candidate must work independently.

Estimated hours: 3 hours per day/3 times a week.

Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Projects undertaken by this position are aligned with the department or project's overall objectives
  • Services meet the continuously changing needs of the lab
  • Perform manual activities
  • Cleans and monitors all lab equipment
  • Provides cleaning services to a lab (dishware, benches, etc)
  • Transportation of glassware for sterilization
  • Monitoring and maintains lab cleaning supplies

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • No technical education or experience required
  • Some knowledge of standard operating procedures and general laboratory safety an asset
  • Communication and organization skills
  • Ability to follow direction
  • Training will be provided by supervisor
