Purpose of the Position: Performs manual labor and operates equipment in a variety of landscape, custodial, recycling/waste removal and/or event support tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The position will work under the supervision of higher-level workers or Facilities Operations Supervisors who provide detailed instructions and training for new tasks and general instructions for routine work; work produced is generally checked during progress and upon completion.
Landscape: Performs basic maintenance of gardens and lawns, including mowing, trimming, pruning, raking, blowing and weeding.
Custodial: Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, empty trash and recycle containers and restocking paper and soap supplies; loading and unloading supplies and goods
Recycle/Waste Collection: Drive a light truck or small electric vehicle and tow recycle and waste bins to a central location; load and operate a compactor
Event Support and Moves: Performs event set-up which includes delivering furniture and equipment for events; removes furniture and equipment and returns to storage area or other location as directed. Performs minor office moves
Lifts and moves heavy objects of all types.
Performs a variety of unskilled tasks such as doing pick and shovel work, digging ditches, cleaning catch basins, removing debris, & sweeps streets sidewalks.
May drive a light truck or a small electric utility vehicle as a condition of any of the above tasks
Qualifications: One (1) year of experience in performing manual labor. Ability to perform heavy lifting up 65lbs. and manual work in all types of weather. Be able to work at elevated heights such as roof tops, extension ladders, on scaffolding, etc. Knowledge of safety requirements for lifting and moving heavy objects. Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English. Valid California
driver's license.

Union membership is a condition of employment. This is a full time 6-12 months appointment.
