Pioneer Natural Resources is seeking Landmen for various roles, ranging from Area/Field Development, Acquisitions and Divestitures, Trades and Minerals/Royalties.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Able to manage lease acquisition project; direct brokers to order take offs to identify open acreage; timely direct brokers to acquire leases and review incoming custom forms while managing their budget; provide timely updates to area team and management.
  • Upon completion of lease acquisition, identify operators within leasehold block and create opportunities for consolidation of stranded acreage to maximize value.
  • Analyze and provide accurate interpretation of complex oil and gas lease and other contract provisions.
  • Review exploration agreements for onerous provisions and collaborate with in-house legal counsel to provide recommendation to management.
  • Effectively communicate contractual obligations to development area teams.
  • Demonstrate proven ability to negotiate and deliver custom agreements that are in compliance with Pioneer policies (e.g. pooling documents, horizontal JOAs, exchange agreements, custom letter agreements, etc.).
  • Order and review title opinions and oversee curative process.
  • Conduct, facilitate and approve due diligence.
  • Coordinate activity of contract personnel engaged to assist in performance of duties.
  • Effectively communicate with accounting, operations and third party groups.
  • Review and analyze Railroad Commission records.
  • Calculate working interest and net revenue interest in complex contractual scenarios, such as joint ventures, drilling wells across multiple contract areas, varying leases, non-participating royalty interests, excess burdens, etc.
  • Direct Division Order how to properly pay revenue for horizontal allocation wells and pooled horizontal wells.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Prepare well authorizations for management approval and execution.
  • Prepare and present presentations as required.
  • Create collaborative environment; mentor less experienced Landmen.
  • As member of the asset team plan, develop and execute development plan in area of responsibility and ensure land obligations are satisfied.
  • Negotiate with other companies and/or individuals in preparation of term assignments, operating agreements and farm-out agreements.
  • Proactively pursue and deliver opportunities to maximize or increase company value via acreage trades or other Acquisition & Divestiture related transactions.
  • Understand and manage all aspects of horizontal wells; which would include being able to assess the benefits and risks associated with allocation wells, pooled wells and consolidated lease wells.
  • Have a thorough understanding of Pioneer’s Horizontal Well Protocol, leasehold pooling in Texas and the impact of non-participating royalty on pooled wells and consolidated lease wells.
  • Be able to quickly identify when a surface use agreement is needed in those areas involving planned horizontal wells.
  • Fully capable of assessing situations.
  • Weighs decisions against company objectives and RESPECT values.
  • Shows good judgment for level of experience.
  • Highly experienced in dealing with regular contacts with mineral and royalty owners, field brokers, surveyors, attorneys and employees from other companies.
  • Requires little to no direction or technical assistance to perform job responsibilities on assigned projects and routing daily tasks.
  • Frequently takes lead project role.
  • Coordinates activities with Land and any other contract personnel engaged to assist.
Education:
  • Bachelor degree, preferably in Energy Management/Energy Commerce, or Law degree; (Relevant years of experience may substitute for PLM degree)
  • High-level knowledge of oil and gas explorations and production activities.
Experience:
  • 1 (one) to 10 (years) years minimum of petroleum land experience in comparable position(s).
  • Highly experienced with demonstrated ability to successfully handle negotiations with mineral and leasehold estate owners.

Other Requirements:
  • Preferably have (or have interest in obtaining) Active AAPL membership..
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in cooperation with others.
  • Able to plan, organize, and prioritize personal work activities to accomplish work projects and goals.
