Landscape Technician (Placement Year)

Our established Landscape team has an exciting opportunity for a Landscape/CAD Technician to join their team to work on projects across the country. This is an opportunity to work collaboratively within the Landscape team, including senior colleagues and technical and design specialists in London, Bristol, Reading and Birmingham and across the wider practice as well as supporting a mix of office and home working. As a result, the successful candidate will benefit from the expertise of a range of skilled and experienced practitioners and develop as a well-rounded professional.

This is a unique opportunity for the right individual to develop their career, working on and contributing to a wide range of projects varying in scale and sector, including prestigious urban regeneration, new town settlements, tall buildings, strategic, residential/mixed use, infrastructure, solar and energy projects at various stages. There will be the opportunity for both 2D and 3D CAD work.

About you

To have an impact in the role you will:

  • Have completed a Landscape Institute accredited Undergraduate Degree and/or PG Diploma or Masters Programme, or a BCS or City and Guilds Certificate in 2D Computer Aided Design (or similar) OR looking for a placement year opportunity as part of your Landscape Institute accredited qualification.
  • Work collaboratively within your team
  • Develop Landscape technical knowledge and awareness of other Barton Willmore disciplines and services
  • Assist with technical design, documentation, detailing and specification for high quality landscape/public realm detailing
  • Researching and presenting design thoughts and ideas
  • Supporting the team in the creation of vision documents and supportive illustrative material

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have strong graphic communication skills to communicate ideas in a clear and engaging way
  • Have proficiency in 2D AutoCAD
  • Have experience with SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign
  • Optionally some experience with GIS will be beneficial
  • Be able to organise your own time
  • Communicate with other professionals as required by each project brief
  • Contribute to the production of documents and briefings
  • Take responsibility for quality of own work, engage positively with review by others, and consider ways of improving work processes
  • Have a broad interest in both strategic landscape planning and design
  • Possess the skills to communicate ideas in a clear and engaging way
  • Have the ambition to be a chartered member of the landscape institute
