Our Renewables Technologists (Large Corrective Wind Technicians) are a vital part of our organization, and we take pride in hiring and training the best in the industry.
We are looking for procedure-driven, Large Corrective Wind Technicians to travel the country repairing electrical generating equipment by performing small and large corrective tasks on wind turbines.
In addition to providing corrective repairs to turbine equipment, the Large Corrective Wind Technician installs, operates, maintains, and mobilizes specialized up-tower lifting devices at customer sites.
This role is a field-based job that requires 100% travel to perform large corrective repairs on wind turbines throughout the United States.
This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement.
Renewables Technologists work within the specialty field of large corrective to support Duke Energy Renewables Operations. The hiring manager may elect to fill this position at the higher level.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Repair and maintenance of Wind Fleet
Perform large corrective tasks on wind turbines
Perform large component exchanges on Wind Turbine Generators (WTG)
Lead teams of technicians as assigned on tasks within areas of developed expertise
Provide mentorship and training to Associate Technologists as directed
Develop technical expertise for the identification and resolution of problems and complete repairs to electrical generating equipment on an increasing number of technologies and tasks
Diagnose and resolve faults on wind turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
Troubleshoot, adjust, repair, and/or retrofit low to medium voltage electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic components and equipment
Perform heavy rigging operations to facilitate replacement of wind turbine components
Support business goals through safe and efficient execution of assigned tasks
Assist with scheduling, dispatching and travel coordination in support of project requirements
Oversee subcontractor activities on site as directed
Any other required projects
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Renewables Technologist Level I:
High School/GED
Associate Degree or Technical Certification
In addition to education requirement, (1) year minimum of related work experience
In lieu of Associates or Technical degree and (1) year minimum of related work experience listed above – High School/GED and (3) years minimum of related work experience
Renewables Technologist Level II:
High School/GED
Associate Degree or Technical Certification
In addition to education requirement, (2) years minimum of related work experience
In lieu of Associates or Technical degree and (2) years minimum of related work experience listed above – High School/GED and (4) years minimum of related work experience
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study.
Large corrective or major component exchange wind turbine experience is strongly preferred.
Experience performing operations, maintenance, or corrective repairs on Siemens, Nordex, Vestas and other turbines
Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies
Experience with grinding equipment, torches, and hydraulic torquing equipment
Experience with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
Experience with heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
Experience working with up tower cranes
Multiple years of experience with wind turbines: troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance
High voltage and substation maintenance experience
Fundamental knowledge of Basic Electricity, Mechanics, Hydraulic and Environmental Health and Safety
Class A CDL
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Valid Driver’s License required
This position requires 100% travel anywhere within the contiguous 48 states.
Operate equipment including but not limited to forklifts and commercial motor vehicles
Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards
Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals, or solvents
Heavy physical effort (usually lifting/moving up to 50lbs individually, 100lbs with a partner)
The ability to climb turbine towers (up to 300ft) daily is a requirement of this position
Walking, Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds
Working in all-weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)
Work at heights greater than 300 feet
Must pass a background check, drug test and a pre-employment physical prior to hire
Safety Weight Restriction - This position contains a weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight-rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
Virtual Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.
A Renewables Technologist - Level I pay range is $33.13 to $41.39 depending on factors listed above
A Renewables Technologist – Level II pay range is $37.07 to $46.35 depending on factors listed above
