Responsibilities:
Case Management: Assist in managing bankruptcy cases, including Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 filings. Track case progress and ensure all deadlines are met.
Document Preparation: Prepare and file bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements, motions, and other legal documents. Ensure accuracy and compliance with court requirements and deadlines.
Client Communication: Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, answer questions, and provide updates on case status. Maintain a high level of client service and confidentiality.
Court Filings: File legal documents with bankruptcy courts electronically (ECF) and manage all related correspondence. Coordinate with court clerks and other court personnel as needed.
Research: Conduct legal research related to bankruptcy cases, including case law, statutes, and regulations. Summarize findings and provide relevant information to attorneys.
Calendar Management: Maintain attorneys’ calendars, scheduling court dates, client meetings, and deadlines. Ensure timely reminders for upcoming obligations and filings.
Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to attorneys, including drafting correspondence, managing case files, and organizing documents.
Hearing Preparation: Assist in preparing for bankruptcy hearings, including assembling exhibits, preparing witness lists, and organizing documentation.
Billing and Invoicing: Assist with billing and invoicing related to bankruptcy cases. Track billable hours and ensure timely submission of invoices to clients.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated on changes in bankruptcy law and procedures. Attend training sessions and workshops as needed.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Paralegal certification from an accredited program is preferred.
5+ years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, preferably in bankruptcy law.
Strong knowledge of bankruptcy procedures, laws, and regulations.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency with legal research tools and electronic court filing systems (ECF).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and legal practice management software.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
