Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.Job DescriptionWe have an opening for a Graphic and Web Designer to create dynamic and engaging visuals for a diverse range of internal communications products and media. We are looking for an exceptionally talented, creative, and strategic designer with relevant professional experience and strong skills and talent producing print and digital graphics. As an individual contributor, you will use your creative talents to create templates, brochures, newsletters, flyers, posters, illustrations, logos and branding, web and video content, and presentations for internal audiences. Additionally, this role is responsible for maintaining and updating internal websites on Drupal and WordPress platforms. This position is in the Technical Information Department within the Business Directorate matrixed to the Human Resources Directorate.This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experiences as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities, outlined below, will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.You will• Create, plan, and execute production of various visual assets to be used in publications, presentations, displays, signage, websites, and multimedia projects using a variety of computer software and conventional tools.• Design graphics and collateral that could be used in Laboratory-wide, high-visibility projects.• Establish standards for quality of work, templates, techniques, or procedures; oversee projects from receipt to completion; coordinate work with other team members; estimate time and cost; choose appropriate work methods; and in some cases, set work priorities and production schedules.• Partner with co-workers and supervisors on special projects involving multimedia design, presentations, and web design.• Collaborate with clients and coworkers to define, develop, and establish objectives to meet the design specification requirements for graphic projects and publications and be responsible for customer intake and consultation.• Communicate frequently with appropriate team lead about deviations in project costs and progress.• Solve moderately complex technical problems and assignments related to design using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures to provide guidance to customers and coworkers regarding production process.• Make regular updates and basic, template-based additions to Drupal-, WordPress-, and SharePoint-based sites using provided content.• Perform other duties as assigned.Additional Job Responsibilities, At The G02.3 Level• Provide guidance on complex technical problems and function as a design lead, providing direction and guidance, demonstrating methods and procedures, performing ongoing quality control checks, making routine commitments related to assignments, and working with team lead on development of guidelines and procedures.• Establish design best practices and present new trends, industry standards, and capabilities to senior HR leadership.• Serve as the graphic design subject matter expert in the Human Resource Directorate, providing advanced-level input and recommendations.Qualifications• Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, multimedia, animation, web design, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience in web and graphic design or related field.• Experience conceptualizing and effectively designing, planning, directing, and coordinating production of web and multimedia design projects using advanced knowledge of computer programs and design methods.• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word and PowerPoint experience), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, Dreamweaver), and content management systems (such as WordPress, Drupal, or LifeRay).• Relevant knowledge in the use of design concepts and typography principles.• Experience with technical illustration.• Experience in establishing and maintaining design integrity throughout all media, publications, and campaigns.• Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills and ability to manage timelines and shift priorities to support workload demands.• Advanced written and verbal communication skills necessary to interact tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of personalities, disciplines, and customers.
