Lead Billing Analyst

The Lead Billing Analyst ensure the timely and accurate production and distribution of customer bills in accordance with customer contracts, policies, and procedures. They address various billing data requests from internal and external customers, and review accounts payable invoices related to purchased power, wheeling, and related services.

The Lead Billing Analyst plays a critical role with the development and maintenance of the SAP, CCS and BI billing systems. #LI-CJ1

Responsibilities

  • Performs the regular duties associated with utility billing, which includes importing/exporting meter readings from electronic files, validating readings, processing exception readings, and confirming accuracy of information.
  • Generates report totals for bills generated, totals delinquent accounts, number of service orders and miscellaneous invoicing to update performance measures.
  • Responds to and resolve complex and sensitive inquiries or complaints regarding customer accounts.
  • Researches and resolves problems including missing or incorrect meter information, duplicate locations, customer data, and misapplied payments.
  • Provide day-to-day operational support during the billing cycle
  • Perform all retroactive meter/device management activities related to billing, due to third party meter activity; meter order schedule and other meter related activities.
  • Process install/remove/exchange and replace meters and use his knowledge to allocate the various devices and map the complete installation structure of the customer in the system. Reprogram (dial, constant, register changes), or change their rate data. Create Technical Master Data and install new accounts and meters.
  • Prepare various financial analysis reports to help Management conduct business decisions
  • Acts as a liaison between the IT development group and business units for the development and implementation of new programs and enhancement of existing ones
  • Support the billing team in other areas needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc.), Visio and other analytical tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skills in adaptability, decision making, customer service, interpersonal relations, oral and written communication, project management, data quality management, teamwork, results orientation, strategic thinking, and team building
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, analyze, and resolve problem situations as effectively as possible.
  • Strong analytical ability requiring a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Ability to consistently meet strict deadlines.
  • Working knowledge and hands-on expertise with SAP Intelligent Business Suite or other ERP system
  • Knowledge of the energy/utility industry and its billing concepts preferred.
  • Familiarity with utility terms, i.e. consumption, rate calculations, rate categories, minimum charges and customer-level charges; and the ability to explain these calculations and charges to customers is preferred
  • Knowledge of information systems analysis, development and testing activities.
  • Strong collaboration mindset with an ability to cultivate productive relationships
  • Ability to analyze billing data and invoices for accuracy and use sound judgment regarding data inconsistencies to independently resolve issues
  • Ability to work independently, with minor guidance from superiors
  • Ability to analyze, diagnose, recommend, and implement best practice solutions that resolve business processes

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Economics required, business discipline preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience within SAP/ERP environment, preferably in SAP CCS billing system and electric utility billing concepts, tariffs and terminology
  • Experience in all areas of Device Management activities preferred
  • Customer service experience
  • Working knowledge and experience in fully computerized Financial System
  • Experience in research, study, and analyses of systems/processes reported incidents and resolving them

Physical Requirements

  • Limited travel (about 10%) required primarily to our generating facilities.

New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $79,000-$96,500. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
