About the opportunity
As Legal Counsel (Employment), reporting to the VP, Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Employment, for Ceridian, you will work collaboratively with Ceridian’s Human Resources Organization as well as the product compliance team in the US and Canada region and across our businesses, functions and locations. You will support both internal employment issues as well as provide guidance on compliance in your jurisdiction of expertise,including monitoring for relevant product changes, analyzing the impact of proposed legislative changes and integrating them into the relevant products, as well as handling escalations that arise as a result of Ceridian’s products and services. The ideal candidate will have a 3-5 years of employment law experience, show competencies in wage and hour law and general employment research, and possess solid business and communication skills.
What you'll get to do
- In this role you will have the opportunity to work on various strategic projects within the organization focusing both on employment and product compliance focusing on Ceridian’s North America operations.
- Providing practical and knowledgeable legal advice on any number of human resources/employment law topics, including: wage and hour law, performance management and terminations; accommodations; leave law compliance; discrimination and harassment; recruiting; non-compete and employment contract review; training; immigration matters and policy development and general statutory compliance.
- Understanding complex issues and competing priorities to develop sound and actionable solutions that meet Ceridian’s needs while complying with relevant law.
- Provide expert guidance to teams from product, development, and marketing on legal issues related to product features at all stages of the product lifecycle.
- Review products, services, and initiatives to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide legal advice on a wide range of areas in the HCM space, including payroll and employment-related laws.
- Remain up-to-date on relevant industry laws and regulations impacting product compliance in North America.

Skills and Experience we value
- Strong academic credentials; Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in the United States.
- A 3-5 years employment counseling and wage and hour experience.
- Experience with employment matters throughout the United States.
- Strong negotiation, analytical and communication skills.
- Experience with immigration matters as well would be of assistance, but not required.
- Ability to interact directly with internal Ceridian personnel at all levels of the organization.
- Workflow prioritization skills, with the ability to work either independently or as a member of a team, in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle highly confidential information, exercising judgment and independent decision-making.
- Creative problem-solver who can efficiently resolve complex issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build effective relationships with internal clients and business partners.
- Acute attention to detail and exceptional critical thinking skills.
- Confident self-starter with the ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
