Legal Intern

Reporting to the Lead Counsel, Business Legal Division, the legal intern will perform research, draft memorandums, and amendments for our senior staff of attorneys while collaborating on a variety of projects and issues impacting multiple business segments. The position will be based at Assurant’s office in Miami, FL. This is not a remote position but does permit a hybrid work schedule. This is a one-year internship.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

• Assist the legal division with legal research projects and handle other tasks as needed, including drafting contractual amendments and memos summarizing research findings and/or opinions

• Ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements

• Use appropriate methods to clearly convey information to others in an engaging way, which helps others understand and retain the message

• Work with others while helping to achieve shared goals

• Identify opportunities and take action to continuously improve processes

What are the requirements needed for this position?

• Bachelor’s Degree

• No licensure or certification required

• Enrolled and attending law school (Currently a 2L)

• Strong computer skills; proficient in a PC environment with Westlaw, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Understanding of contract drafting, legal terminology, and research procedures

• Demonstrated skill in reading and understanding case law, contracts, pleadings, and other legal documents

• Proven oral and written communication skills

• Prefer some knowledge of insurance and/or service contract industries

• Experience with research and analysis of state and federal statutes, regulations, and court opinions on business practices and procedures

• Schedule: Part-time during school / Full time in summer and during school breaks

• GPA requirement -_3.2_
