Reporting to the Lead Counsel, Business Legal Division, the legal intern will perform research, draft memorandums, and amendments for our senior staff of attorneys while collaborating on a variety of projects and issues impacting multiple business segments. The position will be based at Assurant’s office in Miami, FL. This is not a remote position but does permit a hybrid work schedule. This is a one-year internship.
What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?
Assist the legal division with legal research projects and handle other tasks as needed, including drafting contractual amendments and memos summarizing research findings and/or opinions
Ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements
Use appropriate methods to clearly convey information to others in an engaging way, which helps others understand and retain the message
Work with others while helping to achieve shared goals
Identify opportunities and take action to continuously improve processes
What are the requirements needed for this position?
Bachelor’s Degree
No licensure or certification required
Enrolled and attending law school (Currently a 2L)
Strong computer skills; proficient in a PC environment with Westlaw, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Understanding of contract drafting, legal terminology, and research procedures
Demonstrated skill in reading and understanding case law, contracts, pleadings, and other legal documents
Proven oral and written communication skills
Prefer some knowledge of insurance and/or service contract industries
Experience with research and analysis of state and federal statutes, regulations, and court opinions on business practices and procedures
Schedule: Part-time during school / Full time in summer and during school breaks
