The Role
Looking for an experienced Senior Publishing Editor who is driven to produce quality content and is excited to advance their skills in people leadership. You will work closely with the Content Operations Manager and the Managing Editor and will provide strategy ideas for increasing traffic and improving user engagement.
What You'll Do - Manage and schedule the team of publishing editors, including handling vacations, one-on-ones, and evaluations.
- Hire and train new publishing editors as needed.
- Edit, enhance, and publish written content to digital platforms, ensuring adherence to SEO best practices.
- Write headlines, teasers, and metadata; cut/edit digital images; and publish videos and podcasts for articles and social media.
- Coordinate with staff and contributors for content delivery and publication and aid in content creation as assigned.
- Meet strict deadlines and adapt to the demands of the sports media cycle, including reacting to breaking news and shifts in the sports gaming market.
- Promote editorial content through social media and coordinate with product and marketing/sales departments on projects.
What You'll Bring- 3-5 years of experience in an online publishing editor role, with team management experience as an advantage.
- Post-secondary education in Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of AP style, with excellent spelling, grammar, and attention to detail in article structure.
- In-depth knowledge of major professional and college sports, with familiarity with sports betting markets and odds.
- Proficient in web publishing, content management systems, HTML, and photo editing with Adobe Photoshop.
- Well-versed in search engine optimization (SEO) and familiar with popular social media platforms and publishing etiquette.
- Willingness to work weekends and outside of regular office hours to meet the demands of a 24-hour sports news cycle.
The Interview Process- 1st: Initial Chat with Talent Partner (30 mins via Zoom)
- 2nd: Interview with our team, Managing Editor and Content Operations Manager (1-hour video via Zoom)
- 3rd: Take home task - you will be given 2-3 days to complete the task and send it back for us to review
- 4th: Final interview with our team, Senior Content Editor and Head of Content (1 hour video via Zoom)
