Provides assistance to the library media specialist for library functions, including assisting with instructional lessons with students, performing routine clerical duties, locating and checking out materials for students and staff and assisting other staff in the performance of similar or related duties. Tasks performed are specific and recurring; work procedures are covered by oral or written instructions.
Essential Job Functions
Assists in receiving and shelving new library materials.
Checks books into and out of the library.
Shelves materials.
Assists students and teachers in locating materials.
Assists in preparation and implementation of special programs, inventory and library lessons.
Assists in maintaining an attractive and organized learning environment.
Prepares correspondence, book orders, reports.
Prepares and copies materials for as requested.
Assists other staff members and other offices, classrooms and departments when necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Some knowledge of library procedures and filing systems. Some knowledge of and interest in children’s literature. Some knowledge of and skill in using audiovisual equipment, office equipment and computers and/or the ability to learn use of equipment quickly with some training. Demonstrated ability to read, alphabetize, file, type and perform basic clerical tasks and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and the public. Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Requirements
High School diploma, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
