As a System Engineer at Liquid Web, your work will ensure our hosting environments are reliable, secure, and scalable. This role requires a deep understanding of systems engineering and a passion for solving complex technical challenges. You'll collaborate across departments to support new technology implementations, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our platform and processes.
This is a permanent, full-time, remote, direct hire position with a pay range of $75k - $115K annually.
Responsibilities:
Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes
Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the need for human intervention time
Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
Identify departmental needs and make suggestions regarding technical direction
Design and implement system security and data assurance
Create documentation and detailed sets of instructions on infrastructure and software
Troubleshoot and debug all infrastructure/software related to Storm product
Review and address customer issues regarding provisioning related products
Research and implement improvements to the customer experience in regards to provisioning related products
Work closely to build relationships across teams and ensure that requests are viable and in the best interest of the company
Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject or equivalent experience
3+ years relevant experience
Hands on experience with large scale distributed systems, storage, cluster computing, cloud computing
Strong understanding of system architecture, design, administration, networking and monitoring
Mixed operating systems experience: (Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, Windows, etc.)
Impeccable troubleshooting technique
Strong familiarity with multiple scripting languages: (bash, Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.)
Diagnostic and mitigation techniques for complex hardware, software and networking issues
Solid working knowledge of OS installation and automation
Experience with version control systems
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Functional awareness of the following technologies:
RHCE or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with automation software, such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc.
