This is the senior, specialist, or lead worker level of the series. Positions in this class have the responsibility to lead qualified locksmiths on a project or at a job location, to instruct other workers, to correct and specify methods, and to perform work in the repair, installation, and construction of locking devices and keys.
Required Qualifications:
- Three years' full-time work experience as a locksmith, or equivalent education combined with work experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment of locksmith trade; types, functions, and operations of lock sets; key blanks; safety precautions; and record keeping.
- Ability to repair, install and construct locks and locking devices; make keys; estimate materials and personnel needed to complete project; supervise crew of locksmiths or helpers.
- Demonstrated proficiency with software applications for spreadsheets, word processing, and email.
- Experience working in sensitive situations such as operational offices, classrooms, dorm rooms, rest rooms, etc.
- Ability to work with computer hardware and software required to track work orders and record time worked.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a friendly and cooperative manner with students, staff, and faculty at all levels of the organization and in contacts with the public.
- Ability to manage time well and work under pressure situations with tight schedules and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience with programming electronic access control software and associated hardware, such as Lenel Onguard and Key Win.
- Strong knowledge of Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) rules and regulations, standard job safety rules.
- Strong knowledge of applicable Washington Administrative Code (WAC) regulations and local building codes.
