What You Will DoThe Safeguards Science and Technology Group (NEN-1) invites you to join our diverse and goal-oriented group of peers dedicated to the primary mission of developing and deploying nondestructive technologies and concepts in support of domestic and international nuclear safeguards and security. We accomplish this mission by fostering a work environment that encourages creative problem solving, teamwork, and passion for the mission while allowing flexibility in the work assignment. NEN-1 has a history of advanced and exciting R&D in nuclear material measurement physics and custom instrumentation development, mechanical and electrical engineering design, prototype fabrication, training and education, and the potential for learning from world class experts and growth in the field.This position will be filled at either the Development and Fabrication Tec 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.Development and Fabrication Tec 2 $52,400 - $80,600• Assemble components on custom circuit boards and test to ensure proper functionality.• Read and understand engineering instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications.• Assists in the design of testing experiments and diagnostic equipment.• Supports prototype development; provides input for custom parts, assemblies, and testing.• Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.• Maintains documentation; documents results and generates reports.• Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. Maintains required safety and security training, assures safety and security compliance, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.Development and Fabrication Tec 3 $57,800 - $89,500 (in addition to level 2 responsibilities)• Uses standard CAD systems to display and generate drawings to specify moderately complex systems and subsystem components based on information received from others.• Interprets information on moderately complex drawings such as bills-of-materials, schematics, specifications and related data to procure components and locate components in support of assembly and testing.• Diagnoses and repairs non-functioning circuits and instrumentation wiring.• Provides solutions to a variety of component and subassembly design, assembly, and test technical problems.• Documents the configuration of components, fully integrated custom instruments, and specific laboratory test setups.• Has moderate responsibility for the successful delivery of end products.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:• Knowledge and experience with electrical design, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance.• Basic knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software tools.• Knowledge of relevant electrical components (e.g. resistors/capacitors/inductors/diodes/ transistors/basic logic devices)• Ability to read and understand engineering instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications.• Awareness of test laboratory protocols and principles and basic technical responsibilities.• Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting electronic equipment.• Ability to work independently and as well as collaboratively as part of a team.• Contribute to a healthy and inclusive work environment. This includes ability to resolve conflict in a positive way, give and receive feedback effectively, and always show kindness and respect towards others.Additional Job Requirements for level 3:• Working knowledge of mathematical formulas and computations associated with moderately complex analyses.• Knowledge of test laboratory protocols and principles and basic technical responsibilities.• Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software tools.Education/Experience at level 2:Position requires a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Education/Experience at level 3:Position requires an Associates' Degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Desired Qualifications:• Familiarity with agile project management principles and using a scrum or kanban board.• Basic knowledge of Altium or similar software for circuit board design.Note to Applicants:In addition to a resume, please submit a cover letter explaining how you meet each of the minimum job requirements and any of the desired qualifications.Work Schedule: A 5-40 or 9-80 schedule during normal working hours.
