Department or School Site The current vacancy is housed in the central office in Downtown Los
Angeles.
Project Plans, organizes, directs, and reviews a variety of clerical activities and
exercises independent judgment in making decisions based on the
application of technical knowledge to the work of the office.

Job Duties/Responsibilities A Chief Clerk supervises a large, multi-unit clerical staff; coordinates a
complex and varied work flow; and assists an administrator in planning
and managing support services. This class is characterized by the
requirement for initiative based upon technical knowledge, and
knowledge of policies and precedents.

Minimum Requirements PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED. You must be a current or
retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the
Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or
have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent
LAUSD position in which you passed probation.
Laid-off employees' eligibility as a promotional candidate expires at the
end of their 39 month period; as such, laid-off employees applying for
promotional career opportunities may not be eligible to complete the
assessment process or may be removed from the employment eligibility
list once their eligibility as a promotional candidate expires.
EDUCATION
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational
proficiency, preferably supplemented by courses in office practices and
procedures, business arithmetic, and business English or successful
completion of the LAUSD’s Organizational Excellence Branch’s
Exceptional Supervisor Certificate Program I.
EXPERIENCE
Four years of clerical experience, including two years in a supervisory
capacity.
Desirable Qualifications The ideal candidate for this position will possess a proven record as a
highly effective supervisor; an exceptional ability to monitor, coordinate,
and organize the clerical activities of a large, multi-unit division; a proven
ability to mitigate interpersonal conflict and encourage cohesive and
collaborative relationships between members of your staff. The ideal
candidate possesses effective analytical and problem-solving skills and a
compelling understanding of, and experience applying, policies and
procedures related to office management (e.g., payroll, procurement,
etc.). Furthermore, this person demonstrates effective written
communication, superior customer service skills and has proven success
in the ability to forge positive and collaborative relationships with
supervisors and subordinate staff and a demonstrated ability to
communicate information to stakeholders, subordinate staff, and
supervisors. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a solid
understanding of district rules, policies, organizations, and functions, and
an awareness of current events within the Los Angeles Unified School
District.
Employment Selection Process We anticipate receiving a number of well qualified applicants for this
position; therefore, there will be a competitive process. The hiring
departments have requested that we proceed with the selection process

adhering to a pre-planned employment assessment schedule.
The assessment process for this position TENTATIVELY consists of a
qualifying (pass/fail) Scored Questionnaire (completed as part of the
online application), and an Interview and Writing Project, which will be
worth 100% of candidates' overall scores. Candidates who are
successful on the Scored Questionnaire, and meet the minimum
requirements for this position, will be invited to participate in the Interview
and Writing Project.
