In addition to promoting adherence, we help patients overcome barriers to care by assisting with things like financial assistance programs, prescriptions and refills, insurance issues, transportation to visits, understanding their disease and care plan, and coordinating care with other providers.

Position Overview

The Billing Data Entry Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting both internal and external customers by ensuring timely resolution of benefits questions, maintaining accurate data entry, and providing essential reporting to help achieve Lumata Health’s revenue goals.

Job Type: Full-time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $19.00 - $21.00/hr

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hr shift 

Remote: Yes

Reports to: Director of Support Service

Essential Functions

Encounter Management:

  • Complete all necessary encounters for various practices, ensuring accurate data entry in the appropriate Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

Optometrist Referral Processing:

  • Manage the referral process for optometrists by entering referrals from the EHR into Salesforce.
  • Perform benefits verification prior to sending information to the Enrollment Manager.

Out-of-Pocket (OOP) Cost Ticket Requests:

  • Address tickets related to OOP costs as generated by the Customer Care (CC) team.

Eligibility Queries:

  • Respond to eligibility-related questions from the Enrollment Team as needed, utilizing EHR data.

  • Capacity to handle sensitive data with confidentiality.
  • Effective time management skills while working remotely.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of administrative, data entry, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google Suite, with experience in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Typing speed of 30-40 words per minute.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR), preferably NexTech or Athena.
  • Experience with clinical data entry. (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with Salesforce. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of full cycle billing or coding processes. (Preferred)

Physical requirements

  • Must have a home office that is secure and free of distractions (HIPAA-compliant workspace)
  • Prolonged periods of standing, sitting at the desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to hear, speak, call and virtually meet

Work Environment:

Lumata is pleased to provide a remote working environment for their team members.  In order to perform the essential functions of this job, remote connectivity is essential.  You will need a dedicated remote workspace with either a cable or fiber optic internet connection offering a minimum of 50 Mbps of download speed and 10 Mbps of upload speed of dedicated internet bandwidth for each person asking your network.  


Your workspace should be private and offer a low noise level conducive with managing frequent professional conversations and virtual meetings.  It is also critical that your workspace be HIPAA compliant.  For example, you will want to ensure access to  your company-issued PC is restricted, as you may be handling confidential patient data at times. You are typically expected to have your camera on during virtual external and internal meetings, therefore, your surroundings should be optimized for privacy.
