Job Title: Maintenance Specialist

Location: Danville, VA

Reporting to: Maintenance Shift Manager

Role: Permanent

Maintenance Specialist

What this position is about:

The individual will report to and receive primary guidance/instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor concerning preventative and corrective maintenance on processing equipment, processing vehicles, and building and grounds at the JTI Leaf Services complexes. This individual will be a hands-on technician responsible for providing support for mechanical or electrical issues to ensure the processing facility is operated safely and efficiently. The individual will be responsible for working in a team environment at times and will be required to treat others with respect and fairness as they work together to accomplish one common goal. Learn to use proper resources that are available that will help you perform duties, help develop skills and share information with others, so everyone is on the same page. Maintain (tools, vehicles, equipment, work areas) in a clean, orderly manner, complete (daily, weekly, monthly and annual) checklist for equipment maintenance, ensure submission of work orders in SAP maintenance system, follow up on them to ensure completion and properly closed in collaboration with maintenance support associate. Adhere to all Federal, State, Local, and JTI safe regulations, ensure all safety equipment utilized is adequately maintained and meets all compliance standards.


What will you do?

  • Consult with Maintenance Supervisor on task assignment, and provide hands-on support for mechanical or electrical issues preventative and corrective. Submit Maintenance Work orders in SAP Maintenance tracking system, verify when work order task assigned have been fulfilled (document hrs. parts and disciplinary action)
  • Be proactive in providing mechanical or electrical support to processing supervisors at the time of production in the event of a breakdown requiring emergency corrective actions to promptly ensure the resumption of the product flow.
  • Assume accountability for the assigned task and ensure they are completed in a timely, professional, and safe manner, eliminating the possibility of downtime or requiring rework of functions.
  • Provide feedback to managers concerning improvements to reduce downtime or equipment failure while helping to reduce cost and improve the overall efficiency of the processing facility.
  • Strive to be a dedicated team member working in collaboration with Maintenace, Processing, Quality, and EHS teams to ensure processing equipment is functioning at optimum mechanical efficiency to support meeting customer targets.
  • Comply with all EHS standards i.e., labor safety, fire protection, environmental and hygienic company rules, equipment safety, etc. Ensure the usage of the correct PPE when completing assigned task, equipment safety guarding is reinstalled after completion of work; the correct tools are being utilized to complete the task, tool are clean, properly stored, and inspected before and after usage to verify safety compliance.
  • Monitor colleagues, contractors, and visitors working at the processing facility and provide feedback to the individual or a manager when unsafe actions are being performed, proper PPE is not being utilized, or additional safety measures need to be investigated.

Who are we looking for?

  • Associate Degree with a mechanical or electrical focus or High School Diploma or equivalent with five years of mechanical or electrical hands-on experience in an industrial environment
  • Minimum of 5 years mechanical or electrician experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but will consider individuals new to the workforce with mechanical or electrical degrees.
  • Articulate in English with good communication and written skills when dealing with individuals
  • Self-Motivated, ability to work in a team environment, Perficient Computer skills, Open-minded, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Skills.
