Purpose of Role
Leads and directs The Bulleit Bourbon Bottling and Processing operations to achieve business plans and compliance with all Diageo and regulatory requirements, to ensure quality products are processed and packaged. Ensures compliance with safety, environment and health of the department. Identifies business risks and implements vital change to achieve performance results. Effectively leads and develops the Bottling and Processing teams in alignment with Diageo Capabilities.

Financial Responsibility:
Develop and effectively run Department budget. Through capital investments and expenditures mitigate risks and ensure business needs and product quality standards are met. Leads department labor cost control and operating cost strategy.

Complexity of Role:
SW Processing and Blending Department, manufactures approx. 1.5 Million Cases/year of bourbon over two shifts, with ~25 employees, multiple liquid processing tanks and two bottling lines.
Accountable for the performance and results of the department. Develops department plans, including production and/or organizational priorities. Has a high level of manufacturing expertise. Recognized as an authority and known for developing teams.
Partners with Southern Hub colleagues as well as individuals of various functions including Diageo NA Brand Technical Centre, Central Governance, Brand Marketing etc., external vendors and regulatory agencies.
Drives continuous improvement and total employee engagement in critical success areas by empowering employees to use lean manufacturing tools to seek out opportunities to improve the department.
Champion safety, behavioral, and ergonomic solutions to improve the overall department compliance and Zero harm goals.
Management Responsibility:
Provides leadership to Bottling supervisors, operators and/or professional staff; and has 7 direct supervisory reports. The overall department headcount ranges from 23-25 depending on work requirements.
Energizes, engages and motivates team members for high performance.
Has the authority to deal with the decisions/challenges required to achieve business and personnel performance.
Further, the role will be responsible for the ongoing, continuous development of the team and will play a strong coaching role for individuals and their career development.
Decision Making:
Responsible for decision making impacting medium and short-term business strategy guided by resource availability and functional objectives. Daily decisions guided by preservation of product integrity or compliance with Diageo and regulatory compliance.

Key Outputs:
1. Drive a Zero Harm safety and compliance culture, identify challenges, establish priorities and lead improvement.
2. Drive Bottling and Processing strategy by linking; team, individual performance, direct planning, and implementation of key plant initiatives.
3. Inspire and motivate employees to achieve performance levels and potential through highly developed coaching skills. Effectively apply Performance Management and the Manufacturing Management system frameworks.
4. Develop and lead departmental budgets/capital projects and implement action plans that drive efficiencies, achieve quality standards and align with Diageo and regulatory agencies.
5. Ensure optimum performance levels are achieved to effectively reduce cost of goods sold.
6. Build & Leverage relationships with peers within SW and Diageo supply sites in benchmarking and continuous improvement efforts.
7. Liaison with internal Diageo NA and Global personnel and external professional, technical and regulatory agencies to maintain high level of technical expertise and compliance.
8. Ensure compliance to meet CARM and TTB requirements.
9. Site point of contact for all Bottling and processing initiatives as well as strategic Brand change/Innovation new-to-world projects.
9. Promote positive employee relations through effective leadership and issue resolution.
10. Build strong working relationships with local trade union (USW) and union representatives.
10. Leads the effort to achieve great business results by maintaining a Continuous Improvement culture applying manufacturing excellence tools.
11. Engage employees through effective communications e.g. financial results, performance, strategy, mission, vision, community projects/initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Undergraduate degree in related field and 3+ years’ experience in a leadership role in high speed packaging/manufacturing/operations.
  • Leadership and employee engagement skills.
  • Must have ability to work through complex issues and provide logical, compelling and clear plans for action.
  • Project management skills.
  • High level of regulatory and technical expertise.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Financial and budgeting experience.
  • Experience in a Unionized Environment.
  • Computer literate; MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SAP etc.
