The Manager, Client Strategy is an integral leader of the Client Strategy team, responsible for partnering with regional Sales leadership to achieve regional revenue goals, leading the regional team in the Deal Response stage of the sales cycle to close opportunities, as well as ensuring regional oversight in high-value and key opportunities, partnering with sales as a strategic advisor. 


The Manager works cross-functionally across GumGum’s Growth Team to create/improve processes and build knowledge to drive recommendations that address the client’s needs and objectives, and position GumGum to partner effectively with the client on each potential campaign. The Manager is also responsible for the growth and development of all the team members of the region, leading initiatives within the team more broadly, and ensuring a manageable workload with quality outputs from the team. 


Success in this position requires the ability to manage internal stakeholders and understand client needs to develop lasting relationships with brands, by crafting solutions that match needs to GumGum’s breadth of offerings by way of storytelling and ensuring organizational alignment. This role will operate in a fast-paced environment and requires strong project management and presentation skills, and strong knowledge about the full campaign cycle.


Measures of success for this role include regional RFP Win Rate, Average Deal Size, Closed Deal Value (i.e., value of won RFPs), New Business Win Rate, and quality of partnership (to Sales), as well as the growth of direct reports and the region. 


Note: GumGum currently operates in a ‘work from home’ virtual environment with sporadic opportunities for in-person business and morale events (health guidelines permitting). There will not be any requirement to go into the office on a daily basis moving forward. however we are seeking to hire this person in the NYC area.

What You'll Achieve


  • Deal Response Leadership
  • Provide strategic oversight to ensure required response deliverable(s) are on-time and of high quality, by lending your expertise to support in regional Deal Responses. 
  • Ensure optimal utilization in the region such that Deal Response success is maximized and team members can attain continued growth.
  • Develop deep cross-functional relationships internally, primarily with sales leadership, that facilitate consensus and allow for excellence in execution. 
  • Lead two to four verticals in the Vertical Expertise Program to ensure the training of the strategists on the verticals considering the latest trends and best practices and to collaborate in the creation of vertical-specific materials. 
  • Drive internal utilization and mastery of data assets and analytics tools, data-driven and analytical approach to storytelling, leveraging data tools and reporting, including but not limited to Looker, Quantcast, and Comscore.
  • Efficiency and Quality of Response Deliverables
  • Supervise and elevate response deliverables that succinctly communicate our understanding of the client’s needs and a proposed solution, in a manner that differentiates GumGum and is palatable to media buyers. 
  • Deeply understand and educate GumGum’s value proposition and offerings, and ensure we reflect this understanding in all regional deliverables.
  • Work across GumGum’s internal teams to propose solutions that showcase both the best that GumGum has to offer and what the organization can reasonably support. 
  • Fully utilize team resources to create responses as efficiently as possible, and innovate on existing processes to improve them.
  • Partnering cross-functionally to achieve regional revenue goals
  • Understand the needs of the business, opportunities, and pain points, and proactively recommend and drive solutions
  • Communicate team progress and impact on the business, both up (to leadership) and down (to team members).
  • Partner with Sales Leaders and Operations team leads to problem-solve, strategize, and create new opportunities.
  • Performance Coaching Of Direct Reports
  • Give real-time feedback, support, guidance, and coaching to direct reports.
  • Discuss career growth with direct reports, create/identify opportunities for growth, remove barriers, and facilitate career exploration/learning.
  • Provide guidance in managing direct reports’ workload. 
  • Identify areas to efficiently improve output quality and address/implement (at regional and individual level).
  • Foster ownership/accountability by role/individual.
  • Lend expertise, and oversight to support high-value and key Deal Responses of the region.
  • Client Strategy Team Effectiveness
  • Understand company strategy, distill information clearly and help others effectively and efficiently reach their goals.
  • Lead development of team resources for onboarding and continual development.
  • Support in managing the team's workload and prioritizing activities and goals/OKRs.
  • Lead at least two quarterly strategic initiatives to improve the effectiveness and engagement of the Client Strategy team overall.
  • Lead team reporting and communication in the region. 
  • Lead team building activities, and exemplify GumGum values and culture.


Skills You'll Bring


  • BA/BS degree in Business (Advertising/Marketing) or similar experience
  • 6+ years of work experience, ideally in digital media buying/media planning or marketing, either in high-growth advertising, ad tech companies or ad agencies
  • 1+ year of people-management experience
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong performance coaching skills to identify team member growth and help plan & develop new skills 
  • Experience developing proposals and pitches, and intimate familiarity with the sales cycle
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Demonstrated track record of driving cross-functional collaboration 
  • Storytelling, using both qualitative and quantitative data
  • A mentor—leader with a motivating presence and deep subject matter expertise to guide and support
  • Has a coaching mindset, relentlessly focused on the growth and engagement of team members
  • A ‘strategist-meets-planner-meets-seller’ with a drive to win business
  • A project manager and storyteller with the energy and skills to quickly and effectively communicate mutually beneficial solutions to clients
  • Self-starter with ownership mentality and ability to collaborate cross-functionally to deliver quality results
  • Agile - able to move quickly and change direction when needed


What We Offer


At GumGum, competitive base pay is a part of a total rewards package which also includes benefits, an emphasis on recognition, development, and wellness. The reasonable estimated base pay range for this role is from ($107,000 - $130,000) annually. The actual amount may be higher or lower. Individual compensation will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant qualifications, work location, and labor market conditions.

The total rewards package offered also includes an employer-matched 401(k) retirement plan, and depending on the role, participation in a bonus, commission, or stock incentive program.
