Manager - Developer Relations

The developer relations team at Fastly makes it easier for developers to use the Fastly platform through docs, demos and tooling. Fastly DevRel tells stories with code, showing all the possibilities unlocked for developers by our edge technology. The team is globally distributed with members in the US, Japan and the UK.

We are looking for a manager to lead the existing team, build our US presence, and own the developer relations function. Strategy and planning will be key as you define team responsibilities and goals, but ideally you're someone that still likes to be hands on. Writing content, putting together demos, speaking, and attending events are all part of the job. Depending on your appetite for travel there is an expectation of between one to three trips per quarter.

What You'll Do

• Manage a globally distributed developer relations team
• Attend events to build relationships with our community, evangelize our products and gather feedback
• Build and maintain close partnerships with stakeholders that enable your team to deliver effectively
• Clearly communicate upward and outward to set and adjust expectations with your team and internal stakeholders
• Collaborate with your team and internal stakeholders to define team responsibilities and the definition of success
• Plan and create content for internal and external audiences; including but not limited to writing and technical demos

Work Hours: This position will require you to be available during core business hours & to participate in the on-call support rotation based on our business needs

What We're Looking For

• In order to be successful in this role, you have at least 2 years of direct management experience with leading teams and executing effectively within a distributed environment
• Extensive experience in a developer relations or adjacent role
• Expertise in one or more of the following: VCL, Rust, JavaScript and/or Go
• Outstanding communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts in an easy to understand way

Preferred Qualifications:

• Public record of accomplishments (blog posts, demos, talks, code repos)
• Experience building relationships with developers at enterprise companies
• Experience with edge compute platforms or CDNs
• Former hands on engineering experience

Work Location(s) & Travel Requirements

This position is based out of Fastly's New York office. Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.

This position will require one to three trips per quarter.

Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $181,220 to $226,520.

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly's equity and discretionary bonus programs.
