San Francisco Scholars

SEO Scholars provides motivated, low-income public high school students with a rigorous out-of-school supplemental academic curriculum, college guidance, and the leadership development necessary to gain admission to, and succeed at, competitive colleges and universities. SEO Scholars San Francisco is the first expansion region for this program and aims to replicate for Bay Area students the stellar outcomes that the program has delivered in New York City. LOCATION/HOURS

This is a hybrid position based out of our San Francisco office location. It is expected that some duties will be performed on-site, and some remotely, with the understanding that government and public health guidelines will determine the extent to which it is safe to carry out in-person and onsite activities.

All candidates must be within commutable distance of SEO’s offices at Three Embarcadero Center Promenade Level, Suite P-1 San Francisco, CA 94111 upon hire.

Monday - Friday (July-August)
Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm
Tuesday - Saturday (September-January)
Tuesday-Friday 11:00am-7:00pm
Saturday 8:00am-4:00pm

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manager of Teaching and Learning plays an essential role in maintaining our instructional excellence in all grades of the SEO Scholars program. The Manager of Teaching and Learning is responsible for recruiting, managing, and training all instructors. The position also includes instructor operations, as well as leadership in performance development and management of instructional staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructor Recruitment & Onboarding
Partner with Talent Acquisition to forecast hiring needs each semester
Determine the eligibility for rehire of existing instructional staff; survey and track returning instructors
Edit job descriptions to accurately reflect responsibilities and program dates
Manage candidate selection process, including conducting interviews and demo lessons
Staff all instructor positions ahead of determined start date for each semester
Lead instructor onboarding and orientation training
Coordinate with the Human Resources team in New York to ensure timely completion of hiring documents and background checks for seamless onboarding of instructors and other part-time staff into SEO’s administrative systems
Support the development of a targeted recruitment strategy to create and maintain pipelines for high-quality instructor candidates
Instructional Team Leadership
Create and nurture an inclusive and supportive instructional team culture
Directly supervise 40+ part-time instructors for weekday, Saturday Academy, Summer Academy programming for multiple grade levels and subjects including math and ELA
Manage Part-Time Instructor attendance, including reviewing and approving timesheets on Paylocity and troubleshooting timekeeping and payroll issues with HR
Maintain substitute/replacement instructor plans; provide substitute instruction in ELA or math as needed
Collaborate with the Associate Director of Teaching and Learning in New York to support the development, implementation, and refinement of instructor observation, coaching practices, and professional development opportunities
Support the coaching practices of Lead Instructors through regular check-ins, electronic communication, and the maintenance of observation and coaching tools.
Liaise with Online Learning Team in New York to provide instructional staff with training and support on EdTech tools and LMS, enroll instructors in Brightspace, and ensure functionality of technology
Support facilitation of instructional team meetings and professional development sessions
Manage all instructional communication, including meeting agendas, weekly instructor notes/announcements, and FAQs
Manage instructor data and maintain staff records
Curriculum & Instruction Operations
Oversee instructor logistics prior to the start of each semester, including the creation of instructor schedules, dashboards, updates to SEO Instructor Handbook, etc.
Oversee instructional operations and serve as instructor point of contact during in-person and virtual programming
Liaise with Curriculum & Instruction Team in New York to ensure all instructors are equipped with the necessary materials and content to implement SEO curriculum with fidelity
Liaise with Operations and Program staff to ensure effective program delivery and outcomes during programming
Conduct grade book audits to ensure timely completion of instructor grading and feedback on scholar assignments
Support evaluation of academic performance data and suggest modifications to curricula and instructional approach to improve academic outcomes for students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education, social sciences, or equivalent professional development and training strongly preferred.
At least 3-5 years of high school or middle school classroom teaching experience. Experience as a lead teacher and/or school administrator is strongly preferred
Demonstrated passion for closing the opportunity and academic achievement gap at the high school and college level for first-generation and historically marginalized student populations.

CORE COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

Ability to write/create training and professional development that is timely and reflects current and relevant research and practices in anti-oppressive, culturally inclusive, and accessible pedagogy.
Working knowledge of extant research in high impact practices in education, including best practices of student success for first generation students and historically underrepresented student groups.
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with SEO instructors and staff across disciplines and responsibilities, in face-to face large group and individual settings, as well as mediated modes, such as email, Zoom, phone, etc.
Ability to produce clear, professional, and accessible slides and other presentational media.
Ability to provide meaningful feedback to instructors and apply consultative skills to determine professional development needs.
Strong working knowledge of online tools used to support teacher development, including, but not limited to: G-suite (i.e., Documents, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Groups), Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e., Acrobat Pro/Nitro Pro).
Ability to meaningfully organize and use cloud storage solutions (e.g., Google Drive, Box, etc).
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management skills with unquestionable commitment to high-quality work
Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with employees

COMPENSATION

The compensation listed in this posting reflects what SEO believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and SEO reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
