Job Description


Role Description

As a Managing Consultant on the Americas Gas & LNG Consulting team, you will play a key role in our growing consulting practice, with involvement in all aspects of the consulting process, from shaping the opportunity, performing the analysis, managing the project, and working closely with clients and Wood Mackenzie experts to develop insights to support critical strategic and commercial decisions.


Your primary role will be managing commercial and strategy consultancy projects across the Gas & LNG sector in North America and Latin America markets. This includes a growing number of energy transition-themed engagements related to hydrogen, carbon capture and sequestration, renewable natural gas, emissions, etc.

Recent projects our Gas & LNG Consulting practice have engaged in include:

  • Conducting an opportunity screening exercise for a large European infrastructure player considering an asset or company acquisition in the North America natural gas, NGL, hydrogen and CO2 midstream and storage industry
  • Evaluating a US hydrogen filling station business, understanding the hydrogen market dynamics, supply and environmental attributes requirements and financial evaluation of the business model to support a first-of-kind financing
  • Identifying key industry trends and establishing strategic initiatives for a National Oil Company (NOC) to thrive through the upcoming Energy Transition
  • Performing a US LNG entry strategy for an integrated gas player considering markets, business models, commercial arrangements, economics, risks, and partners to secure a multi-billion dollar LNG purchase and potential equity stake
  • Conducting a multi-phase commercial due diligence engagement for a European midstream player to secure a billion-dollar Brazil natural gas pipeline


This role requires a high level of creative thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to apply detailed knowledge and experience in gas and LNG markets to a broad range of consulting projects and client situations. These capabilities must be accompanied by a strong command of oral and written communication skills in both internal as well as external and client-facing environments. Additionally, outstanding team and project management capabilities, in a consulting context, are required for the purpose of this role.

The role requires frequent engagement with and work alongside senior client teams and occasional travel throughout the Americas region.


Main Responsibilities


As a Managing Consultant at Wood Mackenzie, you will take ownership for the delivery of important parts of the assignment as well as project managing and coordinating the overall effort under the supervision of a Project Director. Your main responsibilities will be:


  • Act as Project Manager, coordinating and managing consulting projects by setting up a detailed project plan and working with a team to execute toward milestones
  • Lead and execute complex analysis of commodity markets and project economics, while leveraging our industry research and expertise
  • Build and present compelling presentations conveying key messages and recommendations concisely for a senior audience
  • Train and coach junior team members on day-to-day consulting tasks and ensuring successful project delivery
  • Bring a thorough and current understanding of gas and LNG markets, within the context of the energy transition, and be able to effectively discuss recent events and implications with clients and colleagues

Qualifications


Knowledge & Experience Required


  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as business, economics, finance, statistics, or engineering; top tier master's and/or MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a management consulting or energy-focused consulting role, or other strategic/commercial role relating to gas, LNG and emerging energy transition areas. Other industry experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with clients
  • Experience managing key project work flows and overall coordination of projects in a Project Manager role
  • Strong understanding of the energy value chain (exploration, development, production, transportation, transformation and commercialization), including the implications of the energy transition
  • Strong understanding of commercial operations, business models and strategies
  • Track record of quickly becoming knowledgeable and speaking credibly about a wide range of subjects and themes
  • Fluency in Spanish language is preferred
