We are currently seeking a Managing Health Scientist for our Health Sciences Practice in our Menlo Park or Oakland, CA offices. In this role, you will work as part of a team to provide scientific consulting support on diverse health- and life sciences-related projects. Candidates should possess consulting or expert matter expertise in the field of risk assessment, toxicology, environmental health, industrial hygiene, epidemiology or related fields. You will be mentored by other consultants in the Practice and will demonstrate technical leadership to develop and expand in relevant technical areas of expertise. You will also have opportunities to collaborate with consultants in other science and engineering practices at Exponent.

You will be responsible for:

  • Identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities and promoting Exponent through industry and academic contacts
  • Providing strategic consulting work and technical leadership
  • Securing and managing diverse projects that include reviewing, summarizing, and interpreting scientific literature, regulatory standards, guidance documents, and legal case materials
  • Managing and contributing to the development and writing of complex technical reports and manuscripts
  • Managing and organizing project-related materials
  • Interacting with clients remotely and in person
  • Developing professional experience, qualifications, and leadership

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Toxicology, Epidemiology, or a related discipline
  • Five or more years of related experience; consulting experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience leading project teams is preferred
  • Ability to attract projects and continuously expand business to support full-time staff and have the skills needed to manage, develop, and promote a group of highly motivated scientific professionals
  • Commitment to professional development through publication and presentation of scientific research, active involvement in professional societies, and by obtaining professional subject area certifications as applicable
  • Excellent communication, organization, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams and to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Initiative, adaptability, attention to detail, effective time management, multi-tasking capability, discretion, tact, and collegiality

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is $125,000 - $200,000 depending on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
