GENERAL SUMMARY: VP of Sales, Energy


This role’s primary responsibility is to grow Energy sales through the leadership and coaching of sales managers and, where applicable, sales team members to achieve above and beyond results. The Head of Sales also plays a critical role in ensuring strong accountability in their teams, making sure we are on pace for strategic objectives. 

 

This person’s direct reports will include the director of the Energy SMB sales team and the director of Energy Key Accounts sales team. While the directors will be in the day to day with each of their reps, the head of sales also plays a critical role in holding these teams accountable, making sure we are on pace for both renew/new, overseeing both direct and indirect sales, serving as a coach (not a player/coach) for reps on large deals.  

 

To be successful in this role you must lead sales teams through the continuous development and management of sales managers, as well as build effective relationships across the business to enable key results. You must also possess the ability to see the big picture and strike the right balance between identifying opportunities in the marketplace and providing feedback on go-to-market strategy. It is crucial that you do not lose sight of pipeline management and putting structures in place where needed. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Sales Leadership
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and refine sales strategies aligned with company goals and market trends. 
  • Provide strong leadership and guidance to the sales team, including sales managers 
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. 
  • Support sales teams to drive key targets and establish healthy pipeline. 
  • Promote the individual development of sales managers and their teams 
  • Drive the implementation of sales training, from sales best practices, to putting a strategic training program in place, to solution-specific training, role plays, tech tools (Salesforce, etc.).  
  • Streamline and optimize sales processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Implement best practices, tools, and technologies to improve lead generation, prospecting, and conversion rates. 
  • Develop and maintain robust sales performance metrics and reporting mechanisms to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), sales targets, and forecast accuracy. 
  • Leverage data, metrics, and reporting to identify and capture opportunities for performance improvement across the function. 
  • Works closely with marketing and Business Development: collaborating on content needs, operating as the point of contact for campaigns and cadences, providing regular feedback on what their sales teams are hearing from clients, what barriers are in their way throughout their entire sales funnel, and what opportunities we need to be capitalizing on.  
  • Coordinate with other members of leadership within Sales and Operations departments to optimize sales performance and ensure efficient deployment of shared resources, e.g. SME’s. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 8+ years of experience building and leading successful sales teams. 
  • Proven experience selling or leading others in energy procurement – both natural gas and electricity.  
  • Keen understanding of deregulated energy markets, contract terms and conditions, and pricing strategies  
  • Demonstrable experience leading sales teams to meet and exceed sales targets. 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Sales or sales management experience in some combination of energy efficiency solutions; lighting, mechanical/HVAC, utility incentive programs, and building management systems. 
  • Data and metrics orientation and experience working with major CRM systems.
