Materials Manager

Matternet is hiring a Materials Manager to implement aerospace industry best practices in the production process of electromechanical systems.

The Matternet drone delivery system operates under the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) approval and must meet strict criteria for safety, reliability, and airworthiness. The Material Manager role is critical to ensure our material handling practices meet these expectations.

The role combines responsibilities in supply chain, program management, planning, and quality to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.

You will

  • Develop and maintain a system for material requirement planning (MRP) based on product demand from Business, Operations, and Engineering teams.
  • Coordinate material allocation and consignment to maintain efficient inventory levels.
    • Includes managing inventory specialist who will cover kitting, staging-movement per process flow along with updating item location changes, and inventory cycle counts
  • Analyze production capacity, lead-times, and logistics to ensure on-time delivery of materials to meet production plans.
    • Includes demand-commit schedule and clear-to-build reporting
  • Maintain build plans for Engineering validation, NPI, and sustaining production.
  • Develop and maintain metrics to evaluate performance of supply chain and production partners.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers and drive resolution of delivery issues.
  • Own and manage excess and obsolete inventory (E&O) to minimize financial impact to Matternet. May include resale or secure disposal of stock materials.
  • Manage implementation of new part revisions via ECO to ensure accuracy and health of BOMs and inventory. This includes managing disposition of obsolete and scrap materials to ensure they are properly purged from production sites.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management or related, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years work experience in Materials Management in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience developing and maintaining a production MRP system.
  • Proficiency with common ERP systems, particularly SAP Business ByDesign.
  • Experience working on complex electromechanical systems including PCBAs, cables, purchased modules, and custom mechanical components.
  • Deep knowledge of international logistics including customs classifications, duties, tariffs, and restrictions.

Great additions

  • Familiarity with Gantt charts, S&OP process, and related best practices of program management.
  • Experience with NPI processes and product development cycles.
  • Demonstrated record of cost reductions and efficiency improvements of supply chain and logistics.
  • Purchase Price Variance (PPV) tracking and reporting against the “should cost” BOM
