Job Summary
To assist with maintenance and repairs of HVAC systems, air handling units, commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment, exhaust fans, pneumatic and electronic building control systems, compressed air systems, medical gas and vacuum systems, boilers, chillers and other hospital electrical and mechanical equipment.
Accountabilities

Responsible for performing and/or assisting with both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems including but not limited to ice machines, air handling units, pneumatic and electronic control systems, fan coil units, variable air volume boxes, and other mechanical equipment comprising the hospital’s mechanical utility systems.

Responsible for assisting with repairs and replacement of pumps, plumbing and piping systems, medical gas systems, commercial kitchen equipment, and other related systems comprising the hospital’s mechanical utility system.

Responds to emergency calls and assists technicians and other trades on medical gas/vacuum leaks, HVAC, plumbing, fire response, etc.

Assist with the call-back program after demonstrating proficiency in substantial mechanical related tasks.

Must be capable of performing assigned task with installing ductwork, packaged A/C units, exhaust fans, VAV boxes, fan coil units, and other mechanical equipment.

Must demonstrate proficiency with a multi-meter and have a basic understanding of electricity.

Must demonstrate proficiency with HVAC test and measurement instruments such as refrigerant gauges, air flow hoods, and temperature/pressure measuring instruments.

Responsible for performing tests, repairs and maintenance to the hospital’s vacuum and medical gas components and distribution systems.

Responsible for maintaining low and high pressure steam components and steam piping systems. This includes the capability of making repairs to steam strainers, steam traps, and other steam related steam components.

Responsible for conducting basic computer operations and troubleshooting on the hospital Building Management System (BMS).

Responsible for completing work orders in a complete and timely manner to include all housekeeping duties when work is complete. Ensures work is performed with the utmost awareness for safety and hygiene. Also, ensures all proper department safety procedures are being followed.

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements

High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred

Related experience preferred
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Federal Recovery Certificate, Air Conditioning license preferred. Valid driver’s license, an acceptable three-year motor vehicle record as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart, and a certificate of auto insurance.
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
Driving is required for this position using a Palmetto Health vehicle. Employee will be expected to adhere to the Palmetto Health Driver Safety Policy and specific department driving policies. Employee must pass driver training.
