Media Services Technician

Position Purpose
Supports creation and streaming of video using online tools, maintains equipment and equipped spaces on campus, and supports and trains students, faculty and staff in equipment usage.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Experience and skill successfully broadcasting/recording and editing videos for organizations with similar business priorities and performance standards, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Knowledge of video production gained through a degree in film studies, communications, broadcast journalism, or a related field of study, or a combination of relevant education, certifications, and/or work experience.
  • Experience and skill with setting-up and operating fixed and mobile cameras, microphones, video displays, sound amplification, video conferencing (e.g., Zoom), and other A/V equipment typically used in a business or academic setting.
  • Knowledge of higher education instructional technology, along with a liberal arts or technical degree, continuing education or technical certifications, and/or relevant work or volunteer experience.
  • Able to support, contribute to, and strengthen a vibrant, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community of students, alumni, faculty, and fellow professionals.
  • Able to anticipate, deliver on, and exceed the expectations of faculty and instructional technology colleagues and other constituents.
  • Able to introduce and drive innovation in ways small and large.
  • Able to collaborate with others as primary means to achieve results.
  • Able to seek out and create learning opportunities, including through those revealed by setbacks and failures as well as successes.

Preferred Qualifications
Familiar with production software like OBS, Streamyard, Adobe Premiere, wave.video as examples. Also, Teamviewer, Zoom and other conferencing/webinar platforms.

Description
1. Envisions, articulates, and implements plan for achieving video production and client service priorities; engages with faculty, instructional technology colleagues, and other constituents to identify and surpass challenges; evaluates progress based primarily on faculty and colleague feedback; and updates priorities with direction from the associate director.

2. Conceptualizes with faculty colleagues and other clients the recording and/or broadcasting of courses and events; sets-up and takes-down video equipment, records and/or broadcasts courses and events, edits recordings, and delivers final videos to clients; updates and manages video archives; procures and maintains video equipment and supplies; and performs other activities associated with instructional technology priorities. (40%)

3. Maintains equipment in equipped video capture rooms and studios, provides training and support to students, faculty, and staff using those locations for video capture and live streaming events. Responsible for inventory of equipment and recommending updates and replacement.

4. Sets-up and tests AV equipment; joins pre-session walkthroughs and rehearsals, correcting AV set-up errors as needed; places and tests speaker and audience microphones; and assists with broadcasting of slideshows and other presentation materials. Resolves technical problems that arise during live sessions. Takes down, checks, and stores AV equipment.
