Medical Assistant - Front/Back Office- Temporary Part Time (8-hour Shifts)

Description

The Medical Assistant’s role supports our business by performing quality patient-oriented procedures under the supervision of an RN, LVN, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or physician. The primary focus of the Medical Assistant is to provide excellent patient care and always protect patient and employee confidentiality.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Back Office
  • Assists physicians with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
    Prepares patients for scheduled procedures, assists in patient assessment.
  • Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
  • Provides proper, direct patient care in assigned areas.
  • Performs basic procedures including the application of simple dressings, perennial care, and urine tests.
  • Demonstrates a courteous, respectful, and helpful attitude when working with patients.
  • Takes patient’s vital signs, documents in the EHR system and provides personalized patient care.
  • Safely collects and handles patient lab specimens and reports results to patients by telephone.
  • Responsible for accurate administration of medications as appropriate.
  • Accountable for following clinic policies and procedures for infection control when handling and disposing of infections and/or hazardous waste materials.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
  • Provides health care instructions to patients and family members.
  • Follow employee and nursing policy/procedure manuals and adhere to HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensures accurate maintenance of patient’s medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.
  • Documents patient transactions, phone conversations, observations, and orders in medical records according to the clinic’s policies and procedures.
  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain positive employee relations.

Front Office

  • Provides a warm greeting to all patients, check-in patients through the clinic’s system, distributes and verifies patient demographics, and collects the patient’s co-pay and ensure payment is properly logged for billing.
  • Schedules all follow-up appointments, reschedules appointments based on changes made to the physician’s schedule, and confirms scheduled appointments.
  • Handles all incoming phone calls and exercises judgment as to the urgency of the nature of the call, directs calls to the appropriate personnel.
  • Reconciles cash drawers at the end of the day and verifies the accuracy of daily balances and banking records.
  • Maintains a clean and organized front office and ensures supplies are appropriately stocked.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate or CPR Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 months Medical Assistant experience required, 1-2 years of experience preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish required

Competencies & Success Factors
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPPA regulation.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and Cal-OSHA safety and hazard regulations.
  • Experience in providing patient care to newborns, children, adolescents, and adults.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Thorough and organized with patient care and file maintenance.
  • Must be able to maintain a calm manner and patience when working with patients, employees, and physicians.
  • Must display a high level of customer service.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment.
  • Adhere to all company policy and procedures.


Hourly Pay Range:

$17.38-$25.87

Schedule:
Temporary Part Time
