SUMMARY:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a key member of the Viatris Eye Care Division Medical Affairs team. In this remote, customer-facing role, the Medical Science Liaison is considered the scientific expert and is primarily responsible for engaging relevant health care providers and acting as the key link between these external stakeholders and the company.

The Medical Science Liaison is expected to have academic credentials, scientific knowledge and pertinent experience to be able to engage with KOLs and other external stakeholders to advance Viatris Eye Care Division's footprint in the clinical and scientific communities. He/she will be tasked with developing a deep understanding of the therapeutic area landscape, as well as the specific needs of the healthcare provider in order to support efforts focused on improving quality of care and patient outcomes.

As a critical partner, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will work collaboratively with Medical Affairs colleagues and other matrix team members to successfully execute the medical plan and aid in the achievement of aligned, corporate objectives.



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Engage with healthcare customers to educate and communicate clinical and scientific data to advance the scientific platform as aligned with Viatris Eye Care Division goals and Medical objectives.
  • Educate and communicate clinical value, outcomes, and economic data to payers, providers, key customers, advocacy, and access enablers.
  • Lead and help fulfill unsolicited requests, coordinate scientific, pharmacoeconomic and disease awareness or information as presentations or other forms of scientific exchange.
  • Respond to unsolicited inquiries consistent with the MSL compliance standards.
  • Provide and/or present field observations and insights to internal customers.
  • Support and execute internal medical education cross functionally as needed.
  • Implement scientific engagement plan according to annual MSL goals and metrics.
  • Develop and implement plans in line with scientific engagement plan.
  • Therapeutic area experience Ophthalmology.
  • Collect and interpret medical insights gathered from scientific exchange with experts
  • Communicate relevant information to company partners to define, update, and support medical strategies
  • Support speaker training as requested and ensure the speakers are updated on new data.
  • Facilitate review and tracks progress of ongoing aligned research projects
  • Help evaluate, and screen qualified research sites for clinical investigation
  • Lead and/or participate on project teams that support Medical strategies and tactics as delegated.
  • Advance Medical value proposition, identify gaps, achieve results, and set an example for others to follow by consistently demonstrating Viatris Eye Care Division values and leadership attributes. Demonstrate tact and professionalism when communicating and interacting with others.
  • Lead and support congress activities as aligned with strategy.
  • Compliantly collaborate with cross-functional colleagues. May serve as main point of contact.
  • Complete all required training, activity documentation, expense reporting, and other administrative responsibilities in a timely fashion
  • Overnight travel (40-60%), including some weekend commitments; primarily to medical meetings (travel will vary depending on geography)


Required Skills:

  • Doctoral degree required. Pharm.D., O.D., Ph.D., M.D. or D.O. (other doctoral degrees considered)
  • Five or more years in a medically related field, including 1 year focused on clinical practice, clinical research, or medical research. Experience in a medically related field can include post-doctoral training (i.e., residencies and/or fellowships)
  • 2 or more years of relevant industry experience in a Medical Affairs role.
  • Eye Care experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Ability to: manage both day-to-day operations as well as project work, work both independently and in a collaborative team setting, multi-task and adjust priorities, as necessary, effectively present information to management, participate on interdepartmental teams and interact effectively with all levels of associates both internally and externally.

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The salary range for this position is $144,000 to $217,000
