The MSL Excellence Lead (MEL) is a remote-based member of the Alzheimer’s MSL team and has the responsibility to assist MSL leadership with the optimization of MSL skillset development during field deployment of new-hires, and current MSLs. This will be accomplished via direct mentorship, idea sharing, optimizing the team’s KOL engagement, and best practice coaching.
The MEL will have the following skills/experience:
- Possess a thorough understanding of the Alzheimer’s disease (AD) therapeutic landscape, including issues and priorities as they relate to Eisai’s strategic medical plan.
- Have a demonstrated proficiency in MSL skillsets, including soft skills, strategic hhc conversation, insight gathering, and Ways of Working with cross-functional colleagues.
- Have successfully completed all compliance training and certification processes and are adept at utilizing available resources.
- Be familiar with predictable challenges of the MSL role and flexible when unforeseen challenges arise.
The impact of the MEL on Eisai includes the following: a) individualized coaching on the art of MSLing to ensure successful field engagements; b) elevation of the MSL skillset; c) coaching MSLs during ride a-longs; and d) increase the value of the MSL team to internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Functions:
Support for MSL team

Act as MSL individualized skillset coach and ways of working mentor for MSLs

Provide continuous feedback to the MSL and MSL’s Manager
-
Provide continuous field coaching support and art of MSLing skills to MSLs.

Create development opportunities for MSLs by implementing peer to peer learning sessions
-
Conduct MSL ride a-longs and provide feedback to the MSL and evaluation to the Associate Directors
Ongoing coaching to the MSL field team

Conduct regular interactive education to the MSL team with focus on MSL tactics/strategies and soft skill development

Help to provide guidance on the Art of MSLing and effectively communicating data in the field to multiple HCP audiences

Foster innovation by cultivating collaboration amongst the team and cross-functional colleagues
Accountability to MSL leadership

In collaboration with MSL leadership, determine individual as well as team MSL training needs. The MEL will identify gaps in training and MSL skillsets and formulate plans to empower them to overcome these gaps, while providing ongoing feedback on progress

Assume responsibility for special projects assigned by MSL leadership
Training/Education Resource

Ensure that MSLs are executing approved medical strategies and strategic imperatives according to Eisai compliance and Ways of Working

Coaching MSLs on implementing successful educational engagement strategies
Experience
-
Advanced terminal D degree in medical or health sciences (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD/DO,)
-
5+ years Sr MSL experience in neurology or complex disease states with demonstration of higher-level leadership, impact, performance, and experience
-
Proven proficiency in the Sr MSL role and skillsets
-
Thorough knowledge of PhRMA Code, track record of compliantly following MSL policies and Ways of Working
-
Strong broad-based scientific knowledge in pharmaceutical therapeutics, especially monoclonal antibodies, IV infusion drugs, SC injections, and diagnostic biomarkers
-
Knowledge of FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulations, pharma regulations/compliant practices, and OIG (Office of Inspector General) (Office of Inspector General) guidelines are required.

Knowledge and experience with insight collections, qualitative data analytics, and strategic reporting.

Prior experience in a MSL training role or previous MSL field coaching role is highly desired

Experience with broad audiences such as AD Specialists, general neurologists, radiologists, geriatricians, NPs/PAs, PCPs (Primary Care Physician), PharmDs, and a breadth of knowledge in therapeutics and diagnostics.

Highly skilled in the art of strategic conversation along with a demonstrated ability to assess issues/challenges as they arise and adapt appropriately.

Demonstrated ability to anticipate, organize, plan, and handle multiple priorities, while adapting to the needs of the company and KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders).

Can work independently while adhering to compliance/regulatory policies.

Advanced critical thinking/problem solving skills and the ability to seamlessly adapt to changing dynamics

Experience working in matrix environment including cross-functional commercial partners, with an understanding of the pharmaceutical corporate environment and appreciation for Commercial Operations, including Marketing and Sales strategies

Excellent computer/technology skills including applications for word processing, online research tools, working with spreadsheets, and video conferencing

Familiarity with medical information requests and standard med info practices

Capable of engaging in frequent business travel (65-80% of time), including air travel, ability to travel overnight and occasionally on weekends.

This is a field-based position. The employee is required to set up a home-based office within their defined territory.

Possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license and clean driving record

The base salary range for the role of Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Excellence Lead is from $167,100.00 - $250,700.00 USD Annual. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible to participate in the Eisai Annual Incentive Plan and may be eligible to participate in Eisai’s Long Term Incentive Program.
