That's why we're looking for someone talented, someone who wants to develop their skills, someone like you.This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key leadership role within CRUK's communications team.As Head of Internal Communications, you will be responsible for developing internal communications and engagement initiatives that drive cultural change, inspire and help staff join the dots.Reporting to the Director of Communications - the role works closely with the CEO, COO and HR engagement teams to bring together internal communications across HQ, trading, volunteering and supporter-led fundraising audience groups.This is a senior leadership role within the communications department requiring a high degree visibility and influence across the charity to provide strategic internal communications advice - supporting the delivery of CRUK's business outcomes.This is a multi-disciplined communications role, managing internal relationships at a senior level and oversee the strategic planning and delivery of org-wide internal comms activity that helps ensure our staff feel informed, engaged and valued.What will you be doing?• Provide proactive and strategic internal and transformation communications advice to senior leaders, including the executive board and chief executive (including in response to business continuity and crisis scenarios)• Lead the internal communications team, ensuring high quality consultative support, through providing clear strategic direction and priorities, planning and allocating work, overseeing delivery of channels and ensuring CRUK follows best ICE practice including adoption of latest digital technologies and innovations.• Lead on the development of CRUK's internal comms channels, making sure they are targeted to the needs and requirements of our different audiences.• Enhance performance of CRUK's internal communications and engagement strategy against specific KPIs, making recommendations to review and amend the strategy as appropriate.• Lead the team to deliver initiatives that continually improve our channels, content, campaigns and events.• As a key part of the communications department senior management team (SMT), collaborate with other comms functions to ensure joined up and consistent messaging and activity across internal and external communications.• Advise on sensitive and complex internal communications challenges, including crisis communications issues. Ensure that internal communications on staffing, relevant volunteer and other internal matters which could lead to reputational damage are managed effectively to protect the interest of the organisation.• Oversee an internal communications 'community of excellence' - ensuring all directorates/teams are developing their own programmes and there is consistency of message and approach across the organisation.• In collaboration with other functions (Organisation Development and HR), lead the development of our two-way engagement offer, increasing the opportunity for two-way, meaningful communications and have mechanisms in place for providing feedback to Executive Board.• Play a key role in select leadership groups across the charity, including communications, HR and business continuity, contributing and advising in relation to internal comms approach.• Represent CRUK internal communications at relevant external industry forums.• Ensure Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is embedded into all internal communications activity and consider it as part of all decision making, supporting CRUK's strategy to create an inclusive working environment.What skills are we looking for?• Significant experience of developing, implementing and reviewing internal communication and engagement strategies for a complex matrix organisation, with excellent results delivery.• Experience of working with C-Suite executives and Directors - providing strategic internal communications advice to improve staff engagement and manage reputational risk. You will know how to build consensus and instil confidence and credibility of advice and decision making with other key teams. You will have the ability to hold your own and push back, whilst maintaining good working relationships.• Experience in managing and aligning multi-audience teams and strategies.• A proven track record of success in leading and managing an internal communications team - with the ability to coach, motivate and inspire your team to deliver agreed objectives.• Evidence of delivering multi-channel communications campaigns, driving change and improvement in employee communications - aligning ICE strategies to external organisational narratives and business objectives.• Evidence of applying proven problem-solving techniques - either working independently to use your own initiative and find a solution yet knowing when to bring in others including senior leadership.• Evidence of writing for variety of different audiences.
