Northridge, CA Careers that Change Lives In this exciting role as a Graphic Design Manager you will have the responsibility for managing the day to day operation of the Graphic Design and Innovation team in the Technical Communications department. In this position, you will guide the creative direction and conceptual elements of the design, creation and modification of graphical elements for technical literature, package artwork, multimedia and web content intended for patients and clinicians. The leadership position will lead the team to successfully achieve Medtronic Diabetes' project development milestones. You will manage and interact daily with a team of supervisors and graphic designers within the department to support their growth and development as well as assist in breaking down barriers to success. The position will also include the management of outsourced suppliers in the fields of graphic design and multimedia. A Day in the Life Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. - Leads the conception, design, layout, and coordination of editorial illustrations and creative artwork. - Develops interpretive themes that convey ideas and information. - Manages the creation of graphic presentations that communicate mood, emphasis, insight, viewpoint, and similar visual impressions. - Provides guidance on graphics technology. - Works closely with internal company contacts to understand requirements to create cost efficient graphic designs through available mediums. - May provide computer graphic services for web artwork. - May also have responsibility or input on reproduction and printing processes through in-house resources or outside vendors. People Leadership:
- You will lead a team of supervisors, graphic designers, including in-house and outsourced team members - You will manage the daily operations of the graphic design team and actively assign work as well as provide direction to subordinates - You will create a productive work environment for staff - You will lead the recruiting, selection, and onboarding of new hires - You will actively develop employees and perform annual performance & development evaluations - You will provide ongoing performance feedback Design Development and Management:
- You will manage the design and layout work for technical documentation - You will review and implement innovations in the design workflow that strive to reduce cost, rework and time to market. - You will work with multiple internal teams to understand requirements, determine milestones and set graphics priorities on a project - You will collaborate with internal team leaders to align graphics work within the technical literature and packaging design workflow - You will lead the development and implementation of an automated production flow for graphics scheduling and project assignments - You will ensure that project milestones are completed on time Quality Management:
- You will work toward the creation and maintenance of a repository of documentation detailing production activities for the team. - You will ensure the quality of graphics and document layout produced and ensure development processes are followed as they relate to technical communications - You will ensure that materials developed adhere to legal / regulatory / quality requirements - You will ensure that materials developed adhere to Medtronic Master brand and corporate identity Must Have:
Minimum Requirements To be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident on your resume. Bachelor's Degree 5
years of experience in graphic design, multimedia, communications, package design, or labeling Or an Advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years' experience in graphic design, multimedia, communications, package design, or labeling. Nice to Have - 7
years' graphic designexperience in a regulated environment, specifically medical device or medical industry - Experience managing/monitoring graphical content within a component content management system - Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite - Experience using project management and tracking software, such as Workfront, PlanView, Smartsheet and/or Microsoft Project. - Knowledge of Medtronic and its products - Experience working withtranslation agencies - Experience with management of outsourced suppliers - Proven ability to work effectively with others across departments / disciplines to implement solutions - Strong project management skills, including organizational, multiple projects, shifting priorities - Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, to communicate internally and externally, and across various levels of the organization - Shares and exchanges relevant information to reach solutions, and gaining cooperation of other parties - Proven ability to work independently and motivated to perform at a high-level with little supervision - Excellent ability to plan, schedule, and arrange own activities in accomplishing objectives - Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams and liaising across functional business units - Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment - Strong attention to detail - Medical device industry experience About Medtronic Together, we can change healthcare worldwide.
