Membership Associate

General Function:

Under the direction of the Membership Director and consistent with the Christian mission, the Membership Associate is responsible for providing excellent service for members and guests, maintaining member access control and handling members questions and concerns. In addition, the incumbent will answer the telephone, register and receipt payments and perform other various clerical duties.

Principal Activities:

  • Provide prompt and courteous service to members and guests of the YMCA.
  • Controls access to the facility
  • Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides support and guidance.
  • Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Answers inquiries and provides information on YMCA membership and programs.
  • Conveys basic knowledge of all program areas to members and participants face-to-face and on the telephone.
  • Perform facility tours and carries out prospect process including written and verbal communications.
  • Execute new membership paperwork and program registrations with close attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Execute registration and receipting process for Open Doors recipients.
  • Handle and solve member concerns and when necessary initiate action for prompt resolution.
  • Uses YMCA resources appropriately and efficiently.
  • Participate in annual fundraising campaigns
  • Assist in daily operations such as stocking and cleaning membership area
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Provide assistance with additional administrative duties as needed

Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor or executive level leadership

Know-How:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • At least one year in a customer service related field
  • Must be proficient on internet based software and Microsoft Office programs
  • Must be attentive to details, be able to work with and meet deadlines, take initiative to develop and provide information and controls necessary for efficient office operations
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have excellent human relation skills
  • Must be able to take initiative in making decisions and solving problems in the areas of assigned responsibilities
  • Must work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative
  • Must be customer service oriented
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature, responsible and professional manner

Physical Requirements:

  • Sight, Hearing and Speaking
  • Standing, Walking, Stooping, Kneeling, Squatting, Climbing, Sitting
  • Lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Pulling a minimum of 100 lbs.
