Mgr, MTC Curriculum 1

This position is central to the missionaries' role to 'Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.' In conjunction with Missionary Department product managers and MTC Training and Technology, the Mgr, Curriculum 1 is a manager-level role that contributes to the design, development, and evaluation of instructional products and systems for Missionary Training Centers across the world; It also manages the successful pilot testing, implementation of, and subsequent adjustments to curriculum resources used to train missionaries in all MTCs.


Reports to Mgr, Curriculum 2

1. Provides strategies for new curriculum and associated products such as a revised missionary materials or technology driven resources. (40%)

  • Manages and conducts multiple and complex ongoing pilot tests in order to provide the data needed to influence curriculum innovations.
  • Collaborates with Research and Evaluation, Training, Operations, and Missionary Department Product Managers in this effort.
  • Designs and selects teaching methods, instructional approaches and training tools (computer, Internet, print, video, etc.) for missionary curriculum
  • Transfers vision of MTC and Missionary Department leaders to team members
  • Manages the ongoing operational issues regarding successful implementation of curriculum. This may include minor adjustments to curriculum resources, working with scheduling, conducting MTC teacher training, consulting with the Asst. Administrative Director and channeling information to relevant product managers

2. Manages projects (35%)

  • Creates plans
  • Identifies milestones
  • Identities resource and budget needs for projects
  • Generates budget estimates
  • Manages project process resources and funds to successful completion

3. Coordinates with other divisions within the Missionary Department, other Church departments and non-Church agencies involved in the development or use of instructional products (10%)

  • Provides support for pre-MTC and infield venues as requested by Missionary Department Curriculum division

4. Manages ad-hoc pilot teams and manage the work of part-time employees who assist in writing, developing and implementing curriculum (10%)

  • Manages the work of other employees (may include mixed workforce)
  • Responsible, in partnership with HR, to hire or fire employees and recommends advancement, promotion or any other change of status of employees within their reporting line

5. Trains supervisors, administrators and trainers at MTCs on new products and provide training in missions as assigned (5%)


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Psychology and Technology or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in 2 or more of the following (OR equivalent combination of both education and experience):
  • Instructional design, development, and evaluation of training systems
  • Teaching and training
  • Multimedia, web development, and other learning technologies
  • Administrative experience including personnel management, budgeting, and strategic planning
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Fluency in one or more languages in addition to English
  • Experience in linguistics and language instruction
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D., preferred in Instructional Psychology and Technology, linguistics, or a related field
  • Formal project management training
  • Experience in linguistics and language instruction
  • Experience in audio/video production
  • Experience in evaluation, testing and research
  • Familiarity with the current Technology Assisted Language Learning software
  • Service as a full-time missionary
