Working/Functional Title Director of Strategic Communications - DPPSTo be considered for an interview, please make sure your application is full in line with the job specs as found below.Position Summary Direct overall communications and marketing strategies for the Department of Police and Public Safety, including but not limited to brand management, marketing strategy, advertising, crisis communications, public relations, social media, corporate communications, and market research.Advises MSU DPPS administrators on media communication issues and creates and implements projects in response to their priorities.Represents MSU DPPS as a media communications specialist in discussions of various issues and initiatives.Responsible for the strategic development and implementation of communication materials related to communication, engagement activities, and overall promotion of the unit.Leads development of project plans and timelines, and coordination of activities such as web enhancements, promotional emails, online ads, strategy and analytics of web and social media content, and videos.Develops media contacts to discuss stories, events, or initiatives.Prioritizes and creates communication plans for designated topics consistent with university-wide priorities.Continually monitors media trends and maintains media contacts to develop opportunities for positive coverage.Prepares news releases and special features.Answers public requests and speaks at public engagements.Oversees communications manager and student interns.Directs press conferences as necessary to meet goals.Is accountable for brand and communications standards to be used by the department.Conducts media training for department leadership.Serves as department spokesperson and PIO.Manages public relations initiatives and staff to ensure internal and external messaging is beneficial to the department and the University.Advises VP on media and social landscape including impacts, initiatives, and operations.Coordinates with University Communications and other campus communicators on projects and messaging.Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in English, journalism, public relations, marketing, telecommunications or communications, or a related field; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in news media or media relations or in a field which corresponds to the particular department of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Equal Employment Opportunity Statement All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, age, disability or protected veteran status.Required Application MaterialsCover LetterResume3 Personal References3 Professional ReferencesWork Hours Office Hours are Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm.
