Senior Mechanical Engineer

Microsoft Mixed Reality is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Product Development and Mechanical Engineering team at Mountain View. The candidate should be a motivated self-starter who will thrive in this fast-paced technical environment.The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead complex designs through tough product development cycles. You will need to work with different disciplines to integrate mechanical assemblies, optics, electronics and software into great augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) experiences. You will create mechanical parts and assemblies for production. You will need to deliver mechanical solutions for customer needs implementing innovation and expertise in choosing materials and components and also look to meet cost targets. You can set specifications and write test plans and develop test procedures to validate your designs. You will be required to manage projects and design quality against deadlines and communicate well with teams across different engineering functions and locations. You will be required to travel internationally at times to support design and manufacturing activities and you can work well with international contract manufacturers and external design resources.Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. You’ll also use predictive modeling and document appropriate test requirements.• You will carry out testing on moderately complex products and develop external testing plans. You’ll identify complex design flaws using root-cause analysis and validate features by building prototypes.• You’ll coordinate a project schedule to deliver the hardware engineering aspects of a moderately complex feature or product and make product recommendations by reviewing partner products. You’ll also evaluate moderately complex details of materials and techniques used in production.• You will identify common project risks, communicate team progress, and create detailed reports for products and features. You’ll also document complex details about materials, components, and functionality.• Embody our Culture & ValuesQualificationsRequired/minimum qualifications• 7+ years related technical engineering experience• OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience• OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience• OR Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field• OR equivalent experience.• 3+ years' experience with 2D/3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages such as CREO or similar.• 3+ Years Product Development experience taking commercial products from Concept to ProductionOther Requirements• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.• This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, U.S. permanent residency, or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C.• 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.Additional Or Preferred Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related technical engineering experience• OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related technical engineering experience• OR Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience.• OR equivalent experience.• 5+ years' experience with 2D/3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages such as CREO or similar.• 5+ Years Product Development experience taking commercial products from Concept to Production• 3+ Years experience working with overseas supplier• 3+ Years experience working with cross-disciplinary Teams• Experience in Mechanical Product Design and ECAD-MCAD (SPELL THESE OUT) design.• Experience in AR/VR systems design and development.• Experience in Reliability and Testing Support.• Experience handling and driving suppliers overseas.Mechanical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
