Senior II Controls Engineer (Instrumentation)

We are looking to add a Senior II Controls Engineer (Instrumentation) to our Engineering team in Vancouver. Reporting to the Team Lead – Controls, this role is responsible for continuous testing and improvement of components and sub-components for new products and product enhancements.  An ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented self-starter that enjoys developing innovative solutions.


Job Responsibilities:
  • Uses expert level proficiency to lead the development and implementation of IEC 61131-3 standard PLC programs and interactive user interfaces.
  • Leads cross functional projects to identify and document system/unit root cause and failure analysis using industry standard process and best practices.
  • Leads the design, specification, and verification of controls system components (hardware and software).
  • Overseeing collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior management, to delegate tasks and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Oversees the development of production procedures, instructions and testing standards and ensures they are continuously updated to reflect current best practices.
  • Oversees and reviews standard documentation for internal and external parties.
  • Collaborates regularly with engineering leaders to develop metrics, project plans and review project/team success.
  • Leads collaboration with suppliers and vendors to source components and troubleshoot failure.
  • Approving reports, designs, and drawings while ensuring adherence to company best practices.

  • Lab Testing & Commissioning:

  • Leads projects to evaluate the performance of components and sub-assemblies through network, electrical, mechanical, and environmental test phases.
  • Oversees the development of test protocols and design verification testing.
  • Leads initiatives related to software/hardware system integration and commissioning.

  • Mentoring & Coaching:

  • Providing expert level technical guidance and coaching to multi-disciplinary coworkers and fellow engineers by connecting technical expertise to business outcomes
  • Regularly conducts peer reviews and offers thought leadership throughout the engineering team to ensure transfer of knowledge. Oversees sharing new best practices / process updates and improvements with cross functional team members


Qualifications:
  • Generally, a 4-year degree in a relevant electrical discipline. I.e. Controls Systems, Electrical, Electronics or similar.
  • Generally, 6-8+ years of experience in a controls, electrical, instrumentations, or relevant discipline.
  • Expert level proficiency with PLC or embedded system programming.
  • Expert level proficiency with Ethernet Networking and industrial communication protocols (such as Modbus, OPC, EthernetIP).
  • Experienced in designing and troubleshooting control panels and printed circuit board design (PCB).
  • Experience with CODESYS and HMI design is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, motivated and able to work independently and in teams.
  • Health & Safety conscious individual.
  • Legally able to work in Canada.


$125,000 - $135,000 a year

The salary offered to the successful candidate will be based on their experience, knowledge and skills they bring to MineSense, market data based on their location as well as internal equity. Keeping this mind, the salary offered can be outside of the range posted.
