The incumbent may have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule. The incumbent will be required to report onsite at least once/month but may be required to work onsite more depending on business needs. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.This position will supervise up to four engineer and paraprofessional engineering staff in the MnDOT Metro Design Unit. The position will act as the project manager for all assigned projects and will provide technical leadership for the MnDOT Metro District (Roseville) in Design and Project Delivery. This position will provide management direction, general supervision and engineering guidance to technical staff in production of layouts, final plans and supporting documents. This position will sign engineering documents as the engineer of record including preliminary layouts, final plans, and specifications. This position will also manage and deliver all assigned projects to keep them on schedule and within budget. This position will also develop and manage consultant contracts.Minimum Qualifications• Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through Comity (Reciprocity). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)• Three years of post-registration engineering experience at the Engineer Senior level or equivalent performing scoping and designing of highway transportation projects.• Three years of experience supervising technical staff in the development and delivery of road construction plan layouts, final plans, specifications, and cost estimates.• Supervisory skills sufficient to enforce and communicate MnDOT's policies, personnel rules, and collective bargaining agreements. This includes the ability to provide alternative or combined skills in developing, collaborating with, persuading, motivating and leading other people as well as managing conflict and staff.• Knowledge of MnDOT standards and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies and codes as they relate to transportation system planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation.If advanced to the finalist pool, in addition to the preceding minimum qualifications, you will be assessed on the following criteria during a job interview:• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing sufficient to give direction, facilitate meetings, make public presentations, and answer project specific and policy questions and to write letters and other documentation.• Problem solving ability sufficient to gather, organize and interpret technical data and to present the information with engineering recommendations to MnDOT's customers.• Human relations skills sufficient to work cooperatively with the public and other affected interests.Preferred Qualifications• Experience in roadway design on MnDOT projects.• Experience completing both Preliminary and Final Design layouts/plans.• Experience managing consultant contracts.• Project Management experience including managing scope, schedule, and budget for highway transportation projects.Additional RequirementsIt is our policy that the successful candidate pass a background check prior to employment.
