We are looking for a User Experience (UX) Designer to support our client at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In your work and through your design expertise you will improve health outcomes for 16M+ Veterans, Caregivers, Survivors and Family Members by reducing barriers to accessing care and benefits within the VA.In this position, you will be working in a small, cross-functional team of Researchers, Designers, Product Managers, and Technical practitioners to understand and synthesize customer needs, strategize improved service delivery, and design innovative solutions built on the Salesforce platform for VA employees inside various Program Offices of the Veterans Business Administration. If you have experience integrating HCD practices into the deployment of impactful, scalable digital services and enjoy simplifying complexity into intuitive experiences, we’d love to hear from you.A passion for our mission and civic design is a must-have.How will you spend your time?This contract is a full-time engagement (40hrs/week).95%+ of your time will be spent on billable work, providing UX leadership to the program and 5% on admin or delivering on select tasks for the Design Practice.What you’ll do• Participatory Design: Collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams to deliver user experiences that are positive, accessible, and impactful. Promote and commit to inclusive and accessible product development, ensuring an exceptional user experience for all.• User-Centered Research and Insights: Implement research approaches to discover user needs, behaviors, and preferences. Involve users in understanding their experiences and challenges. Co-create to provide deeper insights to identify opportunities and problems.• Prototyping and Iteration: Design, test, and rapidly iterate on prototypes to improve user experiences. Address user issues and work with business partners, product and development team members towards the envisioned service delivery.• Deliverables and Documentation: Create various deliverables to drive the product vision and development, including research findings, process and user flows, wireframes, and more. Leverage appropriate frameworks to influence decision-making and connect different development stages effectively.• Stakeholder Collaboration and Leadership: Collaborate with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to frame design opportunities. Fuel excellence in delivery by connecting with Design Team members on different contracts to exchange best practices and shape advanced civic tech design capabilities.What we’re looking for• Passion for Social Impact Design: Dedication to designing for positive societal change.• Experience in Digital Service Projects: 3+ years of experience in UX or product design and team collaboration within complex digital service projects and diverse stakeholder relationships.• User Advocacy and Accessibility: Ability to advocate for users, simplifying complex processes into user-friendly workflows and interfaces. Proficiency in accessibility standards and designing within established design systems.• Integration and Collaboration Across Disciplines: Ability to integrate and collaborate across design research, product management, and engineering disciplines to prioritize tasks and establish a shared understanding of UX and broader product direction.• Proficiency in Design Capabilities: Demonstrated experience in at least four of the following areas: user research, UX design, product design, interaction design, service design, visual design, content design, developing design systems or proofs of concept, user testing, and/or UI design.• Modern Design Platform Experience: Familiarity with modern design platforms such as Lucid, Sketch, Avonni, Figma, and Mural. Proficiency in working with design systems and applying agile methodologies and toolsets to create user stories (e.g., Jira). Experience in prototyping with various tools and fidelity levels. Experience with Salesforce and/or other SaaS.• Growth Mindset: Commitment to embracing new ideas and methodologies.
