MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.
The MongoDB Developer Experience team builds and maintains the rich set of libraries and integrations that serve as the primary developer interfaces to the MongoDB database, maintaining support for more than ten programming languages. We’re a globally distributed team with developers in multiple time zones and continents. Our senior engineers are typically specialists in a particular programming language, but are capable of contributing to projects in other languages as well.
To work with this team, we are looking for a seasoned product manager who has a background in software engineering (ideally, library/API development & management) - someone who would understand the desires of the developer community intimately from the user perspective. Therefore, our ideal candidate has hands-on experience building web applications, is a fast learner, and is comfortable with reading and noticing flaws in technical documentation and technical implementation: You are passionate about working with engineers and understand the software development lifecycle, and are able to crisply communicate what is ideal, what is acceptable, and what won’t work. You have spent time on sites like StackOverflow searching for solutions. You thrive when working independently, and communicate well both in person and to a crowd. You have an insatiable desire to learn and improve yourself, and keeping your technical skills sharp is important to you despite working in a product role.
As the product manager, you will define what the user experience should be for specific programming language communities including Java, Scala and Kotlin. You will identify opportunities and prioritize product backlogs for the client libraries, framework integrations, or partnerships. You will help plan what we build and when, and be a strong partner with engineering leadership. You will maintain context on what’s new and important to developers. You will work with our technical documentation, DevRel, and services teams to ensure a cohesive experience.
Onboarding for this role includes building a working web application in the stack of your choice with MongoDB, writing a tutorial, and publishing it publicly. You will also introduce yourself to various JVM-related language communities (such as Reddit) and submit talks for conferences that are technical in nature, triage issues, and sometimes reply to software engineers on community forums.
To drive the personal growth and business impact of our employees, we’re committed to developing a supportive and enriching culture for everyone.
