AI/ ANSSS , through a collaborative and nurturing philosophy, supports Native students and their families navigate the transition to Montana State University and the Bozeman community. The AI/ ANSSS provides advocacy on behalf of Native students with the MSU faculty, staff, and programs while supporting Native student academic, social, personal, and cultural growth.This position is contingent upon continued grant funding. This position is currently funded through June 30, 2025, with the potential to continue through June 30, 2028, dependent upon available grant funding.Duties and ResponsibilitiesLiaison outreach to campus and broader community (Bozeman, Gallatin Valley, State)Recruit and supervise mentors and mentees for AI/AN student mentorship program.Develop, organize, plan and coordinate numerous cultural activities for student engagement and community outreach.Coordinate and implement education, outreach and communications programs.Coordinate events and reservations for the American Indian Hall Building.Supervise student workers who assist with development and implementation of cultural activities and engagement opportunities.Serve all American Indian/Alaska Native students needing and seeking to become academically and personally successful at Montana State University.Provide culturally sensitive career and personal counseling and academic advising.Attend and participate in all Native student-related groups on campus.Develop, update, and maintain MSU AI/ ANSSS electronic/social media resources as related to retention and support for MSU students, including the AIC website, AI/ ANSSS website and MSU Native American Resource Directory Website.Manage digital signage in AIH .Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & SkillsBachelor’s Degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Experience advocating for economically disadvantaged and underrepresented students.Experience in an educational setting.Experience coordinating and managing small and large events.Experience giving oral presentations and speaking publicly to groups, especially college students.Demonstrated computer and software experience, including wordprocessing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, graphics, and basic web html.Demonstrated experience working with college students or similar populations as mentor/advisor in a professional environment.Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & SkillsMaster’s Degree in Adult and Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling or related discipline.Grant management experience.Knowledge of American Indian cultures, history and contemporary issues, particularly those tribes in Montana and surrounding states.Experience advising or teaching underserved students.Experience working with communities from all backgrounds.Previous experience working with web content management systems.The Successful Candidate WillEffective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students.Strong written, oral and communication skills.An ability to work positively with teams and individuals from all backgrounds, ethnicities, and interests.Aptitude for problem solving and facilitating the work of others.Take initiative and work well independently.Be confident and competent in oral presentation and excel in public speaking.Exercise good judgment in decision making.Maintain confidentiality of records and information.Aptitude for graphic design and promotion and marketing for events across campus.Position Special Requirements/Additional InformationThe person in this position will work a varying schedule that will include evenings and occasional weekends as assigned.Routine recruitment traveling in addition to travel to attendance at meetings, trainings, and conferences, etc.This job description should not be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities or requirements, but a general description of the job.
